FIRST CLASS HONOURS

In this case study, Churchill Services detail how they integrated and upgraded cleaning services at London South Bank University.

One of the largest and most challenging cleaning contracts won by Churchill in 2017 was to service the estate at London South Bank University (LSBU) in Southwark.

LSBU’s compact campus, comprising a mixture of Victorian architecture, modern 20th century buildings and new builds, sits right in the beating heart of Southwark, just north of the landmark Elephant and Castle roundabout.

With a bustling city centre location and a population of some 18,000 students drawn from over 130 countries – in addition to 2,000 academic and support staff – the University’s cleaning provision is a daily challenge, requiring close attention and streamlined execution.

As the contract was previously shared between two separate suppliers, the issue of amalgamating service delivery with minimal disruption was highlighted as a priority for the University.

With extensive experience in this sector, as well as a successful track record in Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations (TUPE) transfers, Churchill London was well-placed to deliver these essential services and the company was eventually chosen as the preferred supplier of general cleaning, waste disposal,

and window cleaning services from September 2017.

A strong presentation and focus on future improvements were highlighted as key factors in LSBU’s decision to award the three-year contract to Churchill, which services the University’s academic and residential sites in Southwark and Havering.

Simon Francis, LSBU’s Head of Estates Services, commented: “The University was very impressed with Churchill’s bid and presentation. What impressed us most was the passion and energy shown during their presentation and the proposals for improvements that could be delivered through technology-led innovation. As the University has some major
