CROMWELL HELPS

WHITE ROSES GROW Leeds-based Cromwell Polythene has sponsored a local under 11’s football team, Sherburn White Rose FC, as part of its commitment to sustainability.

Cromwell’s Managing Director James Lee and National Accounts Director Paul Fleetwood recently visited the club and were impressed with the facilities and everyone involved.

James commented: “Sustainability is a key part of our company DNA, so we were delighted to take this opportunity to support this local young team. We

thought that team manager, Jamie, was extremely professional and enthusiastic, which was a joy to see.

“In addition to the kit sponsorship, we have also donated some refuse sacks in the hope that they will be helpful when clearing up after match days; although the club house and pitch is already well maintained and tidy.”

Jamie Firn, Under 11’s Team Manager, said: “The 2017/18 season has seen this year’s under 11’s get off to a smart start thanks to Cromwell Polythene’s generosity in kindly sponsoring the squad with a new Joma match kit. The squad has recently grown to

22 players which has allowed a new development team to be set up, providing an ideal first step into the sport, whilst giving youngsters in and around Sherburn in Elmet the opportunity to represent their area.

“The support provided by local businesses like Cromwell Polythene is a vital part in the ongoing success of the club. Assistance with kit sponsorship allows the club to continue its investment in facilities and equipment, along with recognised FA training schemes for all the clubs coaches and supporting members.”

Both under 11 teams play in the local Garforth League divisions, which see them in action against sides in and around Leeds and West Yorkshire each Sunday, putting into practice the skills and techniques they have learnt during Saturday morning training sessions.

The club welcomes all new players and has a growing junior section, which supports players from the age of five through to 16. Beyond this, players have the opportunity to become involved within the senior section of the club.

ARROW MAKES CROSSCOUNTRY IMPACT WITH

BOMBARDIER Bombardier Transportation’s Central Rivers depot in the Midlands has joined forces with cleaning chemical manufacturer Arrow Solutions.

Arrow will introduce a new product to operations, and has just completed the first deep clean of the entire fleet of 57 CrossCountry Voyager trains. Each made up of four or five carriages, they were all subjected to a 20-hour exterior bodyside clean with Thickened Oxalwash, removing iron and rust deposits that aren’t normally eliminated with daily cleaning solutions.

This change has resulted in significantly cleaner trains, helping

improve the passenger experience and boost the CrossCountry brand in the process.

Colin Dunn, Train Presentation Manager at Bombardier Central Rivers, explained: “I believe the results speak for themselves – you only have to see the difference in the train after we have applied Thickened Oxalwash.

“It not only gives the train a much cleaner finish, but has also brought hard to clean areas back to a much more acceptable appearance. This includes the door buttons, steps, sole bar and vestibule ends… these are notoriously difficult to clean, but this Arrow product offers the solution.

“The staff are proud of the finish they have achieved and we can monitor how long the train maintains its appearance. Again, we can see the improvements have been significant and they are easier to reclean after this process.”

Arrow first held discussions with Bombardier about an advanced exterior cleaner in 2013, following the successful introduction of Ecowash Autoshine in their wash plant. There was a requirement from CrossCountry to look at an alternative deep clean solution, so the Leicestershire-based cleaning and maintenance specialist spent time understanding the challenges faced by Bombardier and the impact these had on the final ‘look’ of the fleet.

Jon Williams, Fleet & Contract Manager (Voyagers) for CrossCountry, commented: “External cleanliness of the train is a critical aspect of creating a positive first impression for our customers. The Oxalwash programme has lifted the overall presentation of the Voyager fleet with significant improvement in the appearance of harder to clean areas and removal of ingrained dirt along the bodyside.”
