Company Profile: R.P. Adam Ltd

Scotland’s other cherished liquid asset.

From the days when Robert Purves Adam set up shop, to manufacture a simple range of cleaning and bleaching agents for the local textile industry in 1891, to the present day, R.P. Adam Ltd has remained an independent family-owned company with manufacturing at the heart of the business.

At the purpose-built 65,000 sq ft Selkirk base, R.P. Adam manufacture and stock a core range of over 150 Arpal branded “blue box” product lines, plus a further 250 lines tailor-made to meet specific customer requirements. All of the products are developed in the on-site laboratory.

With a can-do attitude at the core of its business ethos and a passion for how its “blue-box” products perform across all market sectors, R.P. Adam create high quality formulations in a range of pack sizes, from 750ml trigger packs to 1000 litre IBCs.

The company’s manufacturing history, formulating experience and flexibility enables it to create bespoke products for own label customers and niche market sectors. Although "blue box" represents the hero Arpal brand, the company also also manufacture over 250 "white box" lines under own label.

R. P. Adam Ltd accesses the market both through an extensive network of regional and national distributor partners and on a direct supply basis. The chosen route to market will be discussed and agreed with the end user customers to ensure their requirements are met in full, first time and on time.

By utilising the expertise of regional and national distributors, R.P. Adam help reduce road miles and carbon emissions by making fewer but larger deliveries to its partners’ premises, for onward distribution into the local market.

The team focuses all of their energy in the manufacture of chemical products and not in the provision of non-chemical consumables. This allows them to do what they do best – develop and manufacture high quality formulations and provide an outstanding service to end user customers on behalf of its distributor partners.

R. P. Adam is much more than a company simply manufacturing chemical products. Its primary aim is to be seen as the outstanding provider of service in the cleaning industry by being within reach of its customers and distributors at all times, irrespective of their size, location and market sector.
