Welcome to the new school year and this edition of Wisconsin School Musician!

Identifying student needs, designing curriculum that responds to those

needs, and utilizing creative teaching strategies to reach all youth through mu- sic is at the heart of our theme, “Music Education: Students at the Center.”

This issue, also dedicated to the 2021 Wisconsin State Music Conference, ex- plores the true essence of what it means and takes to effectively bring students back together, and to the center, with music as a key part of their well-rounded education.

You can further embrace our theme by joining us IN PERSON (that felt REALLY good to type) at the Wisconsin State Music Conference in Madison, October 27–30. Check out the special conference section beginning on page 35. Year after year, the conference provides a meaningful opportunity to meet up with friends and colleagues for some amazing professional learning and networking – all while continuing to sharpen your skills and advance music education for young people throughout our state, and beyond.

On that note, thank you for all you do to make a difference in the lives of our youth. Your resilience in finding creative ways to reach students wherever they may be is paramount to their success. We wish you the absolute best this school year!
