WSMA Student Composition Project Victoria Donahue, WSMA Program Director

B

Both Wisconsin and National music stan- dards focus on the artistic processes of Create, Perform, Respond and Connect. The WSMA Student Composition Project (https://wsmamusic.org/composition_ project/) assists music teachers in meeting the create standard and encourages the creative efforts of student composers by recognizing their own works.

To participate, students submit original compositions, written descriptions and recordings to WSMA. Wisconsin compos- ers evaluate the submissions and students receive a written critique identifying strengths of the submission as well as offering suggestions for improvement in future compositions. Awards are then assigned based on merit with winners identified in each division.
