The WMEA Standards Committee has been creatively developing various venues to bring learning opportunities to Wisconsin music educators.

Turning the Page: A New Chapter with the WMEA Music Standards This workshop provided the opportunity to collaborate on best teaching practices, get a jump start with new standards- based units and plans, explore and create more just and compassionate classrooms, and educate others through advocacy featuring a full day conversation around social justice with special guest speaker Beatriz Aguilar!

OFFERING VIRTUAL SEMI- NARS 2021–22 School Year – A Seminar Soirée of WMEA Stan- dards.


The WMEA Standards Committee is developing a series of four vir- tual seminars through the 2021–22 school year. These sessions will be succinct and relevant to the “now.” Specific dates will be announced. Each seminar will be 6:30–8:00 pm on a Wednesday evening. Partici- pants will earn a Professional Devel- opment Certificate from WMEA/ WSMA for completing all four seminars.

Laurie Fellenz WMEA Executive Director, Elected to National Post Executive Director Laurie Fellenz was elect- ed as the next chair of the NAfME Council of State Executives. NAfME Societies and Councils provide expert, committed leader- ship for all key areas of music education within the association. The Council of State Executives provides state executives in the 52 NAfME federated associations with the opportunity to exchange ideas, review programs, learn about issues associated with legal and regulatory requirements for nonprofits, and coordinate activities with each other and NAfME. She will serve as chair-elect during 2021-22 school year and a two-year term beginning in July 2022. CONGRATULATIONS LAURIE!

• Ginger Marten – Wisconsin Rap- ids Schools, was elected as North Central District vice president


• Erica Breitbarth – Reagan High School in Milwaukee, was elected as Southeast District vice president
