WSMA High School State Honors Auditions Celebrating 50 years

Auditions for the 2018 WSMA High School State Honors Music Project will take place on February 3 in Appleton, Eau Claire and Oconomowoc and on February 10 in La Crosse, Middleton, Milwaukee and Stevens Point. Audition requirements, conductor biographies, audition tips and the High School State Honors Timeline can be found on the High School State Honors homepage on the WSMA website at wsmamusic.org.

Students will be notified in writing of audition results no later than April 1. Teachers will be able to see a list of students who have been accepted by going to the WSMA website. Student contribution for the High School State Honors Project tuition remains at $450 this year through the kind support of Wisconsin Foundation for School Music. This tuition includes room and board for the summer camp, music and an Honors Project t-shirt as well as hotel accommodations, some meals, professional recording of the concert and transportation while in Madison for the formal concert in October. The tuition also includes the opportunity to work with Wisconsin’s finest teachers as section coaches and nationally recognized conductors.

Teachers, students and parents are encouraged to visit the WSMA website to view information regarding all aspects of the High School State Honors Music Project. Information is updated as needed throughout the audition, camp and concert cycle. Please visit often to explore all aspects of the project.

WSMA thanks every music teacher for informing his/her students about the High School State Honors Music Project and the opportunities provided through this prestigious project.

Please Note: The audition schedule, audition site information and driving directions will be available in a searchable database and posted on the WSMA website no later than January 19 at wsmamusic.org.

Solo & Ensemble and Concert Festival season is underway. The same Festival Registration Program is used to register for both Solo & Ensemble Festivals as well as Concert Festivals. The program can be found by clicking “District Festival” or “Concert Festival” in the “Quick Links” of MyCenter. Now is a great time to login to the program and make sure the correct festivals appear for your school.

x Festival Manager Information

CESA 7 and CESA 10 offices partnered with WSMA to offer an educational environment to host the festival manager workshops. Four festival manager workshops were held this fall in Chippewa Falls, Green Bay and (two in) Wau- nakee. Almost 50 festival managers attended one of the offered workshops. Festival Management Committee member Ryan Petersen (Deerfield High School) assisted in the presentations given in Green Bay and Waunakee.

Important festival manager materials are available online through Festival Manager Resources in MyCenter. The festival manager computer pro- grams have been updated along with the video tutorials. Example letters, publicity materials and festival manager workshop presentations are also available.
