secondary general music

classroom is fluid from one semester to the next and even one day to the next. To assume there is one way to teach hip-hop is to deny the expertise of our students, to only embrace the idea of diversity.

Yet like KRS-One, the best teachers should have their catalogue open. Second- ary general music is a wide-open frontier of possibility. We should sample and learn from each other. We should dig outside our comfort zones, because “that unsure feeling is where to start” (Hrovat-Staedter, 2017). We should support each other in our journeys from diversity to equity.
