Welcome to the new school year and the September issue of Wisconsin School Musician.

The WSMA Publi- cations Committee, comprised of mu- sic educators from

throughout the state, met in January to determine WSM themes that would be relevant and timely for this school year. The committee unanimously adopted this year’s Wisconsin State Music Conference theme, “Music Education: Embracing Diversity,” as the central topic for this edition.

Turn the pages and you will find editorial focusing on our theme from a variety of angles and perspectives. The message though is consistent… We celebrate what it means to embrace diversity and empower our students to broaden their horizons with a well-rounded education, inclusive of all people, and in favor of their differences that when combined make a greater whole. Bringing students together and leveraging their differences for the betterment of learning can extend well beyond the classroom to the future of our youth in all walks of life.

You can further “embrace” our theme by joining us for the Wisconsin State Music Conference in Madison, October 24–27. See the special conference section begin- ning on page 44. Among all the great of- ferings, we are proud to introduce a new category of sessions titled “Inclusion, Di- versity, Equity and Access (IDEA).” The conference provides a great opportunity to meet up with friends and colleagues for amazing professional development and networking – all while sharpening your skills and helping advance music education in Wisconsin.

On a closing note, thank you for all that you do to make such a meaningful differ- ence in the lives of our youth... We wish you all the best this school year!
