Annual Guide 2019 I SOURCE TESTING ASSOCIATION
Chairman’s introduction to STA Annual Guide
Welcome to our 2019 Annual Guide. I hope you all fi nd the guide a useful reference document.
I’m very proud to be writing this once again as Chairman after a year of change for the STA. In the 25 years I’ve been involved in the industry, one of the constants has been Dave Curtis. As many of you already know, Dave left the STA earlier in 2018 after being instrumental in the formation and running of the association. I’d like to put on record my personal thanks to Dave as he has offered advice, guidance and help to me throughout my career as I’m sure he has for many people and organisations over the years.
Now that Dave has left we are fortunate to have Simon Medhurst and Andy Curtis as External Liaison and Technical Support for the Source Test Association, with the vital continued support from Samantha. The Executive committee are very grateful to both Simon and Andy for taking on these roles, and I am sure that they will do a fantastic job supporting the STA and its members.
The real driving force and success of the STA will always be down to the membership and the continued goal and mission to drive forward the safety and technical aspects of emissions testing. I would like to encourage as many members as possible to continue to be actively involved in the meetings. I still feel these offer an excellent opportunity to all stakeholders of the emissions monitoring community to get together and discuss the important issues. The meetings continue to be an open forum for all members to discuss concerns and often to work through solutions amongst industry experts.
In the uncertain times of a post BREXIT landscape, the STA’s role in contributing to the technical discussions and challenges remain as important as ever. The meetings also continue to offer the chance for members to communicate directly with Regulators and UKAS, and to help infl uence key decisions.
If you are not currently a member of the STA, I would like to encourage you to join in 2019 whether you are a Test Laboratory, a Process Operator, an Equipment Manufacturer or a Regulator. For a modest annual fee, your organisation will have the benefi ts of: free telephone advice; discounted training; keeping up to date and participating in the development of standards and regulatory guidance documents.
Finally I’d like to thank William Averdieck, the former STA Chair, for his work and support to the association, along with the current offi cers, all of whom offer their time and expertise to support the industry and the STA.
Best wishes to all of you for 2019. Mark Elliott Exova Catalyst
