32 Water / Wastewater Measuring and control unit AEGIS II

The new [controller AEGIS II] is a multi-parameter control and analysis platform from ProMinent with built in wireless access point and ethernet. The controller has been developed for continuous measurement and control of liquid analysis parameters in water treatment processes - especially for cooling water treatment - in industry. The controller can operate together with conventional analog and digital sensors and actuators. It reliably prevents corrosion, deposits and biological growth in evaporator cooling water circuits. For this purpose, the AEGIS II measuring and control device acquires all necessary measuring parameters and controls functions that ensure faultless operation. Such as: conductivity, pH, ORP, chlorine, bromine, chlorine dioxide, peroxide, corrosion and fluorescence. The sensor controlled bleed function and exact addition of biocides and corrosion inhibitors ensures a uniformly high efficiency of the cooling circuit heat exchangers.

The water in a cooling tower constantly evaporates and leads to thickening. The reason: only the pure water evaporates, but not containing salts and solids. This happens until the remaining water with its ingredients is saturated. If this degree of saturation is exceeded, the concentrated ingredients are deposited in the system. Therefore, fresh water should be refilled before reaching the saturation point. This is where the controller AEGIS II comes into play: It continuously measures the conductivity of the cooling water and automatically starts the necessary bleed. A certain proportion of the saturated water is drained off and replenished with fresh water. The conductivity decreases due to the dilution with which the concentration of the salts decreases.

After bleeding, the bleed valve closes. The cycle starts again. In addition, controller AEGIS II controls the dosage of a disinfectant to prevent contamination.

With timed or sensor controlled biocide dosing, users benefit from the extended functions of pre bleed and bleed lockout. They ensure an optimised mode of action of the biocide used. For example, pre bleed (forced bleed) carries out a bleed prior to biocide dosing. After the biocide dosage, the bleed lockout blocks a bleed. In this way, the biocide can always disinfect effectively.

Introducing SiteBox, the industry’s first full

monitoring and control system, in a box SiteBox is ATi’s brand-new approach to water quality monitoring systems. This smart alternative to traditional instrumentation panels is a complete water quality monitoring and control system that can be used in a variety of applications, from drinking water treatment to process water in the food industry, all housed in a carry-on luggage-sized portable box.

Its modular nature enables users to order a bespoke monitoring system that fits individual site requirements. This is in stark contrast to the size and complexity of traditional panel mounted solutions. SiteBox can be used on its own as the input to a control system, or alternatively as an independent monitoring system that polices existing water quality monitors.

Delivery to start up in minutes

SiteBox is quick to install, with delivery to start up in minutes, and typically generates live data (eg SCADA) within 30 minutes, dramatically reducing the overall cost of the instrumentation package. SiteBox also has a small footprint, along with low water usage, and can be configured for dual or triple validation, multi-stream (1- 3), up to eight sensors and over 20 parameters.

SiteBox benefits Use of ATi’s industry-leading, ultra-low powered smart sensors, M-Nodes • Use of ATi’s industry-leading, ultra-low powered smart sensors, M-Nodes • Years of run-time on batteries • 12-24 VDC mains power option • Integrated flow, pressure control and monitoring • RS485 modbus output of parameters and diagnostics • Fully portable

• Small footprint means it can be used almost anywhere • Under 30 minutes to install and data delivery, reducing costly onsite time • Bespoke system for individual site needs • Eliminates costly, time consuming and complex design process • Sensor diagnostics and calibration timer alerts give increased confidence measurements More information online: ilmt.co/PL/mp1x

Whether plant components or pipes are attacked due to the high salt concentrations in cooling water is monitored by means of corrosion measurement. Two corrosion sensors can be connected to the controller AEGIS so that a trend corrosion measurement can be carried out. Compared to the delayed information of the coupon method is this a real time information about current corrosion effects. There are corrosion sensors for different metals available.

The new controller AEGIS II provides reliable control and offers the most flexible data log and field bus and web based communication options to optimize efficiency and profitability for all cooling water applications. The new keypad design enables easy menu navigation and enhanced responsive browser views for smart phones and tablets.

measurements on the GO! UV254 has become a regular technique in water and wastewater as an indicator of Natural Organic Material (NOMs). The benefits of UV254 measurements providing continuous surrogate results for TOC, COD and BOD have been realised and companies use these results to spot trends and quickly solve problems before they escalate.

Portable solutions allow measurements to be taken where continuous monitoring is not required or is not feasible. Photonic Measurements’ UV254 GO! is a truly portable device, which fits in the palm of your hand. With a rechargeable Li-ion battery, the UV254 GO! is a lab quality device that provides quick and easy measurement in the field. Simply place a sample in the analyser cuvette and you will get your results in less than 10 seconds.

If the water to be sampled is less accessible or multiple measurements are required then a dip probe can be attached to the GO! All measurements are stored directly on the GO! and up to a thousand results can be reviewed and trending graphs shown on the GO!. All results can be taken off by USB connection. The UV254 GO! Is just the latest UV254 instrument developed by Photonic Measurements who are specialists in this field.

Hanna Instruments is excited to introduce the new Optical Dissolved Oxygen Meter (HI98198). Hanna’s opdo™ meter (HI98198) combines their rugged meter design with an advanced optical sensor for stable DO readings in field and plant environments. The portable opdo™ meter (HI98198) is stored in a convenient carrying case and is always prepared for successful testing in tough environments.

Justin Mecys, General Manager of Hanna USA stated, “Our all new optical DO meter requires minimal maintenance, bringing simplicity to DO testing. The portable, rugged design and advanced optical sensor help our customers get the best possible accuracy while in the field.”

This optical DO meter (HI98198) requires no membranes, filling solutions, or warm- up time so testing can start right away. A digital optical DO probe with Smart Cap Technology makes this meter hassle-free and easy to use. With automatic cap recognition, the smart cap features a built-in RFID reader that stores important calibration data for added traceability. The smart cap can be replaced annually and the meter will notify the user at the time of expiration. Tougher by design, Hanna’s optical DO meter (HI98198) is waterproof, IP67-rated and can withstand immersion in water of 1m for up to 30 minutes. The optical DO probe is IP68-rated featuring a strong ABS body and stainless steel protective guard for testing in rough environments.
