The world’s smallest multimetric nanoparticle detector now available in the UK


Air Monitors has launched the Naneos ‘Partector 2’ – a handheld device for occupational exposure measurements, aerosol research and outdoor air quality monitoring. Using dual non-contact detection stages the Partector 2 measures lung deposited surface area (LDSA), particle number concentration and average particle diameter.


Traditional methods for measuring airborne particulate matter measure particle mass per unit air volume, usually with an upper size limit of x microns (PMx etc.). However, from a human health perspective, the particles of most interest are those that penetrate deep into the lungs; an application for which the Partector 2 is ideal.


In comparison with traditional nanoparticle detectors, the main advantages of the Partector 2 are that it provides all three measurements simultaneously, in a compact, lightweight instrument with a rechargeable battery that typically operates for 24 hours.


With a short warm-up time, the instrument can start monitoring in just 30 seconds. It also features a colour display for live graphical readings and has a high concentration alarm. Data are stored on a removable µ-SD card with enough space for years of data.

The SmogBox investigates Brighton’s air quality


You’d expect the air at the seaside to be nice and clean, wouldn’t you? ET’s Mike Webley, took a stroll along the seafront and some of the back streets in Brighton with their new SmogBox, a mobile, battery powered, NO2


system, to investigate. As one would expect, NO2

Air quality is typically measured at fi xed locations in monitoring stations and the data that’s generated is used to investigate compliance with national limit values. Self-contained, mobile systems such as ET’s zero emissions Smogmobile and now our new SmogBox, enable AQ offi cers and consultants to investigate potential hot spots where no real-time, permanent monitoring has been carried out.


The SmogBox’s size and portability lend themselves to its use as an investigatory tool for many urban air quality applications. These could include: short-term monitoring at schools, train stations, bus stops and alongside busy


roadsides and pedestrian routes.


The SmogBox incorporates the T500U CAPS, fast-responding, high precision, MCERTS approved, direct NO2 as GPS tracking and real-time web enabled data collection and visualisation.

Portable XRF analysers are used to measure metal content quickly and simply in applications such as recycling, manufacturing quality control (incoming and outgoing), mining and exploration, contaminated land and positive material identifi cation (PMI) in oil, gas, petrochemical and power plants. They are also used to test lead in paint and metals in toys and consumer goods, as well as analysing materials such as bauxite and slag. Additionally, they are employed in niche applications such as precious metals exploration and the determination of metals in spent automotive catalytic converters.


GOLDD technology (Geometrically Optimized Large Drift Detector) represents one of the most signifi cant improvements to XRF analysis, delivering dramatic performance enhancements, including sensitivity, speed and precision. Users are therefore able to undertake laboratory-grade measurements. Battery powered and weighing just 1.6Kg, the XL3t is able to measure up to 30 elements, including light elements (Mg to S) without the use of helium or vacuum assistance, and heavy elements (Mo to Ba).


An integrated camera makes it possible to store photographs of the measurement area with the data, and a tilting, colour, touch-screen, combined with the ability to store over 10,000 readings, makes the instrument quick and easy to use in the fi eld.
