Simplify the Switch to HILIC with Raptor HILIC-Si Columns

Restek is bringing the speed and reliability of Raptor LC columns into the HILIC realm with the addition of the Raptor HILIC-Si column. HILIC is an increasingly popular alternative to reversed-phase LC for challenging polar analytes because it provides better retention of water-soluble compounds that are separated by polar differences. The Raptor HILIC-Si column simplifies the switch to HILIC because it delivers rugged Raptor performance, provides SPP column speed for faster analyses than traditional FPP silica columns, retains polar compounds without ion-pairing reagents, and is fully reliable, efficient, and selective

with LC-MS compatible mobile phases.

Restek chemists became the first to combine the speed of superficially porous particles (also known as SPP or “core-shell” particles) with the resolution of highly selective USLC technology. This new breed of chromatographic column allows you to more easily achieve peak separation and faster analysis times without expensive UHPLC instrumentation.

Rugged, reliable Raptor HILIC-Si columns make the analysis of polar compounds fast, easy, and MS friendly!

Soluble Fraction, Ethylene Content and Intrinsic Viscosity determination for Quality Control Laboratories of Polypropylene Plants Polymer Char’s CRYSTEX®

QC means a step forward in technology for automation and

precision of Soluble Fraction determination (amorphous fraction) in polypropylene and polyethylene resins. Based in TREF technique, it has been developed for continuous operation in manufacturing plant laboratories with minimum bench space and utilities requirements.

CRYSTEX®

QC overcomes all the difficulties of the gravimetric methods based on xylene solubility and traditional wet chemistry, by eliminating sample weighing, external filtration or extraction devices, and all the associated tedious manual operations. Therefore, no handling of any solvent by the operators is required, neither external filtration nor solvent evaporation.

Ethylene content and Intrinsic Viscosity can be measured as well in the same analytical process, which takes approximately 2 hours starting when the sample is put in the vial up to final results, being ready once again for consecutive sample analyses. Precise quantification is achieved by means of an infrared detector, so no analytical balance is needed with CRYSTEX®

QC.

Fully-automated analysis of up to 42 samples, known to be homogenous (pelletized) can be performed using the same technology in the new CRYSTEX®

42, but with samples that weigh up to 300 mg. Jet Fuel, Crude Oil, Diesel Blends: Applied NIR-

Mercury and Petrochemicals P S Analytical – Experience, Performance, Reliability and Support

The presence of mercury (Hg) in petrochemical samples is very bad for the environment and industry. Even at ultra-low concentrations mercury can attack aluminium components, poison expensive catalysts and expose workers to highly toxic conditions.

It’s no wonder that petrochemical plants and refineries spend millions of dollars every year removing even small concentrations of Hg from their precious gas and liquid sample streams. It is also no wonder that they wish to maximise the efficiency of their Hg removal systems and to achieve this, highly accurate and sensitive monitoring and measurement of Hg is required. Sub part per trillion sensitivity is needed and this is analogous to measuring a single grain of sand in a pile of 10,000 tons!

That’s where P S Analytical (PSA) comes in!

For over 30 years PSA has been at the forefront of trace Hg determinations. PSA partners with many companies to monitor and help manage this Hg removal process. This partnership happens from the research bench through to production; with PSA taking a pivotal role in ensuring successful removal technologies are deployed in the real world.

PSA have analysers to suit all aspects of the monitoring and analysis of Hg, including laboratory instruments and on-line analysers for gases and liquids. More recently PSA have provided solutions for speciation (fractionation) analysis and also waste water systems associated with petrochemical processes.

Employing Atomic Fluorescence as a means of detection the PSA analysers provide ultimate detection performance. With literally thousands of systems in the field today, and support networks in Europe, USA and SE Asia, PSA offers the ideal package of performance, reliability and support.

Spectroscopy – Quality Control of Hydrocarbon Refining Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) enables straightforward multi-parameter analysis of critical parameters for monitoring the refining of hydrocarbons. NIRS is a non- destructive secondary analysis method, NIRS does not require any handling of chemicals whatsoever, and real time measurements are performed at the push of a button.

NIRS is the ideal method for a wide range of applications including:

distillation of crude oil: API Gravity, Reid Vapor Pressure (RVP), density, PIANO, lubricant oils: aromatics content, density, flame point, oil content, PAH, pourpoint, distillation analysis, viscosity and diesel blends: cetan index, cloudpoint, density, FAME, colour, flashpoint, etc.

Metrohm provides a comprehensive portfolio of NIRS instrumentation for laboratory and process analysis as well as a large number of documented applications (Application Notes). Among them are: AN-NIR-022 Petroleum product analysis by NIRS (cetane index, TAN, aromatics, and sulphur) AN-NIR-024 Measurment of diene value (DV) by NIRS and AN- NIR-025 Real-time inline predictions of jet fuel properties by NIRS.
