Analytical Instrumentation Redesigned Metals Digestion Cup is Now “The Ultimate Cup”

An improved experience is waiting for customers who use the 50-mL disposable metals digestion cup, from Environmental Express, for their laboratory applications. The redesigned digestion cup, now The Ultimate Cup, boasts many new features for optimal performance.

Increased wall strength provides more durability for digesting with concentrated acids. Graduation lines have been added to both sides of the cup making it easier to fill. The screw-thread profile has been redesigned with a tighter seal to eliminate leaks and engage the FlipMate®

filtration system more securely. The Ultimate Cup is available with a liner-

less cap to complement the current polyethylene-faced cap. A larger dimple on the bottom of the cup provides more stability for wobble-free use. A few features on the digestion cup remain the same. Still the industry’s cleanest digestion cup, The Ultimate Cup is molded from the same polypropylene resin that customers have come to trust. The company continues to certify its digestion cups for 68 elements—the most on the market—and an improved Certificate of Analysis for background metals and volume accuracy is included in every box purchased.

The Ultimate Cup is ideal for use with the Environmental Express®

41397pr@reply-direct.com OptiReader is Now Included in the ASTM D3241

ASTM D3241 is the Test Method for Thermal Oxidation Stability of Aviation Turbine Fuels. The relatively new PAC/Alcor OptiReader uses a Multi-Wavelength Ellipsometric test method for the scanning of JFTOT Heater Tubes. This premium instrument is now included in the Annex A4 of the new version of ASTM D3241.

The revolutionary ellipsometric jet fuel thermal oxidation heater tube scanner aka OptiReader provides pass/fail results with a full 2D and 3D thickness map defining maximum deposit thickness and volume. Results are not only fast, but also highly precise and accurate. The user interface is so simple it doesn’t require any training which saves time and money.

This instrument is adapted to work with the so called Intelligent Heater Tube (IHT). The IHT securely stores the important data associated with jet fuel thermal oxidation test in a small Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) device permanently mounted on the end of the Alcor Heater Tube. This keeps tube and results data together inseparably, facilitating traceability and ensuring accuracy.

Jet fuel thermal oxidation tests (JFTOT) are critical for determining the quality of jet fuels. With JFTOT it is crucial to have testing materials meeting strict dimensions and composition controls. Alcor by PAC, has delivered this high level of quality and reliability for more than thirty years. Alcor heater tubes provide superior performance and produce reliable results, but until now, archiving data meant keeping heater tubes and data separately. Quality audits require matching data with heater tubes. Audits can turn up mismatched data due to poor record keeping or simple transcription errors. The IHT now enables simplification of record keeping, improves traceability, and minimizes audit headaches.

The Alcor Intelligent Heater TubeTM is the only heater tube on the market that can electronically store all the important data from JFTOT instruments directly onto the heater tube and is designed to work perfectly together with the OptiReader.

The PAC/Herzog OptiFlash is an excellent example of an automated instrument for determination of the flash point of petroleum products. It is a crucial test for several oil products each according a specific standard and test method. Well known standard methods include Pensky Martens Open Cup (ASTM D93) for fuels and bio diesel, Cleveland Open Cup (ASTM D92) for lubricants and bitumen, TAG (ASTM D56) and Abel (IP 170).

But these instruments can only work properly if the test performance is validated frequently. ELS, European Lab Services verifies analysers according to an ISO 17025 accreditation.

ELS checks every step thoroughly before the job is done. For flash point, the procedures are described by the specific method of flash point determination (e.g. ASTM D93). The procedure contains the calibration of the temperature sensor at four points; also the temperature reading will be verified. The procedures also describes a calibration and adjustment of the pressure sensor and verification of the heating time. Most procedures require a verification of the stirring rate as well. After the verification is completed, the system will be checked with a Certified Reference Material and a verification certificate according ISO 17025 will granted.

Every step of the process is checked and the analyser will be ready to use with the proper certification of accuracy, repeatability and of course traceability. ELS has more than 25 years of experience and a unique accreditation service, European Lab Services is the only company worldwide providing on-site verification of petroleum analysers with an ISO 17025 accreditation.

Accurate analysis of Derived Cetane Number (DCN) is an important tool for diesel and biodiesel fuel blenders and refineries to maintain fuel consistency and quality. Existing technologies such as CFR Engine and CVCC methods do not meet present market requirements with their high investment and operational cost. Herzog by PAC pioneered the Cetane ID 510 instrument: a unique technology that is proven to provide the best precision in the market for determining DCN of all types of diesel fuels, biodiesel, FAME, HVO, BTL, and GTL. It is a compact, easy to use, and fully automated analyser, that offers excellent return on investment, and that is in compliance with today’s safety requirements. The CID 510 is in perfect correlation to ASTM D613, and approved as standard ASTM 7668. Optimus Instruments has over 30 years of experience in the sales, installation and maintenance of petroleum analysers all across the market and can service, sell and install the CID 510 accross Europe.

For More Info, email: email:

The current version of the EN590 now includes an addendum mentioning both the use of the CID510 and its test method EN16715. In 2014 a new patented test method ASTM D7668 for CID 510 was published and is accepted in specs for diesel (ASTM D975), Biodiesel B100 (ASTM D6751) and Biodiesel B6 toB20 (ASTM D7467). In 2015 a new European test method EN 16715 for CID 510 was published and was accepted in the EN 590 diesel specs last year.
