Analytical Instrumentation Fully Automated Intrinsic Viscosity Analyser
for Determination of viscosity in Polymeric Materials Polymer Char’s IVA – Intrinsic Viscosity Analyser- is a fully automated instrument for measuring the intrinsic viscosity in a wide range of polymeric materials from ambient temperature up to 200o
C.
The whole process is performed without user intervention or handling any solvents including filling of vials and dissolution of the samples, thanks to an autosampler with capacity of up to 42 samples. At the core of the IVA, a robust two-capillary viscometer collects relative viscosity data from which intrinsic viscosity is derived. The stainless steel capillaries design is self-cleaning and self-calibrating, ensuring reliable and reproducible data. Furthermore, the instrument adds a safety level to the process thanks to its full automation, thus, IVA becomes a practical and convenient alternative to the manual or semi-automated methods.
IVA is compatible with the typically used organic solvents such as decalin, tetralin, tri-chlorobenzene (TCB) and orthodichlorobenzene, among many others. Dissolution temperature and analysis temperature can be programmed independently from ambient to 200o
C, meaning that a wide range of polymers, even most crystalline ones, can be analysed with convenience and safety.
The analysis of polyolefins and other polymers containing significant C-H content can be further expanded by the incorporation of the optional Infrared detector IR4 to accurately quantify the injected polymer mass, which results in improved precision and accuracy of viscosity results.

Magnetometer Series Adds Capability to Measure Ferrous Particulates In
Grease Meets ASTM Test Method The FerroCheck 2000 Series of portable magnetometers from Spectro Scientific quickly and conveniently measures total ferrous wear particulates in lubricating fluids. The FerroCheck 2000 unit, which measures ferrous wear particles in oils, is now joined by the FerroCheck 2100 version that adds the capability to quantify up to 15% ferrous debris in grease. The instruments enable users in both field and laboratory settings to accurately gauge evidence of ferrous wear and use the data to support condition-based maintenance programs for engines and machinery in fleet and industrial applications.
The FerroCheck process measures disruption of a magnetic field by ferrous debris in the fluid. The measurement is now supported by ASTM standard D8120 “Standard Test Method for Ferrous Debris Quantification.”
Every ILUDEST-/i-Fischer-system is a unique high-end product that precisely meets the specifi c concepts of our customers and turns challenges into solutions.

One challenge for grease analysis is the introduction of the same small amount of sample per test to ensure reproducible measurement. A newly designed sampling boat simplifies the task for users and requires less than 1 ml of grease sample.
Operation of the FerroCheck 2000 magnetometers involves simply drawing a fluid sample of less than 2 ml, placing it in the instrument, and using a touch screen to complete the analysis. Results are available within 30 seconds. No solvents, sample preparation, or special technician training is required. The compact, battery-operated units weigh less than five pounds. Data is stored automatically and can be exported via the CSV format or the AMS OilView™ software interface.
FerroCheck magnetometers measure total ferrous content in parts per million (ppm) by weight. They can detect particles from nanometers to millimeters in size, including those typical of normal machine operation as well as large particles produced by abnormal wear.
Coupled with one of Spectro Scientific’s condition-based maintenance systems (MiniLab Series or MicroLab® Series), the FerroCheck 2000 Series is part of a comprehensive solution that ensures asset availability and longevity. When performing measurements on-site, these magnetometers eliminate the wait associated with lab-based fluid analysis and enable users to make immediate maintenance decisions that reduce unexpected downtime and costs and also eliminate potential catastrophic machine failures.
Spectro Scientific Chief Executive Officer Brian Mitchell said, “The FerroCheck 2000 Series enables users to perform rapid and accurate fluid assessments on-site as well as in the laboratory. The availability and ease of the measurement facilitate frequent, routine use that supports predictive maintenance programs as well as detecting unforeseen incidences of ferrous contamination that, if unrecognised, can threaten the viability of large capital assets.”

Leman Instruments is a leading European gas generator manufacturer. They offer a range of standard products, manufacturing capabilities for OEM’s and custom designed units for High Purity H2
CH4 and CO2
Zero Air generation. In addition they create solutions for FIDs, GCs, purge air generators, scrubbers, N2
involving Ethernet, USB, RS 485 and possibility of AK protocol integration.
One of Leman Instruments’ newest innovations is its combined technology gas generator, the GC STATION 60LC. This unit incorporates an inboard compressor and features a concept unlike any other currently offered in the market place. This advancement is unique to Leman’s brand and has been well appreciated by their customers for being incredibly practical. Combining high purity hydrogen, zero air and nitrogen generators, this product acts as a fully automated solution.
Further developments include new communication protocols which Leman have established for the
benefit of their customers in all of their products, who urgently need to be provided with the necessary information quickly and efficiently. The new technology and protocols can be easily integrated with systems all over the globe.
Another notable product range from Leman Instruments is the HYDRO 50L 50 ml/min to 15 l/min High Purity Hydrogen Generators for FID and CARRIER GAS which fit almost any type of application, needing high purity H2
production, close to the
operator in a laboratory environment. Based on the field proven Solid Polymer Electrolyte (PEM) cell technology, pure hydrogen is produced at low pressure from electricity and high quality distilled water (ZeroWater). This process can be initiated on demand and does not require any caustic solution. The produced Hydrogen is available 24/7 with a constant minimum purity superior to 99.995 % and maximum at 99.99995 % at output flows of 50 ml/min to 15 l/min (depending on the model).
The H2
output pressure is regulated electronically and can be set from 0.5 to 10 bar. (7 to 140 psig). Each instrument is equipped with high performance communication interfaces (RS485, Ethernet, WLAN) to create a very flexible gas network with local or central control. Due to the software being focused on safety, automatic regulation and reliable communications, Leman’s products are easy to install, reliable, safe and a joy to operate.
