Pumps, Valves & Liquid Handling

High-Performance Peristaltic Tube Pumps for a Wide Range of Applications

Spetec in Erding manufactures peristaltic tube pumps, often referred to as a roller pumps or a tube pumps. A distinction is made between standalone laboratory versions and OEM pumps. The pump manufacturer takes on all aspects of production, from the necessary planning and development work through to the procurement of parts and job handling.

Spetec started designing various types of peristaltic OEM tubing pumps and offering them to manufacturers of laboratory and measuring equipment across the globe. As the pumps and tubing are mutually dependent, the manufacturer also produces the appropriate tubing themselves.

Spetec has many different pump types available but the company uses a number of basic components, which they manufacture in house. The actual visual and geometric design is done to individual customer requirements. The design of the pump and the base plate, including the colour, is custom, meaning that the design concept of the OEM is retained.

The development of the SM04 allows compact fitting on built-in pumps, such as the Precision Standard tube pumps the Low-Cost Mini variant and the Precision Compact tube pumps.

Fitted with a roller head with 12 rollers, the Precision Standard pump is suitable for the most stringent requirements in respect of low pulsation and consistency of fluid delivery. With its roller head diameter of 72 mm and speeds of between 0 and 80 rpm, it can handle up to 6 channels. The dosing range per channel is 0-45 ml/min.

The Precision Compact pump has a smaller roller head (36 mm diameter) and at speeds of between 0 and 100 rpm can only handle up to 4 channels. The dosing range per channel is 0 – 8.5 ml/min.

The third variant is the Low-Cost Mini pump with an even smaller roller head (30 mm diameter). It covers the same speed range of 0 – 100 rpm, but only handles three channels, with a dosing range per channel of 0-23 ml/min.

All three types are fitted with a wear-free stepper motor (1.8°) and incorporate a shaft mounted on two ball bearings. All parts are made of PVC, polypropylene or are powder coated. As described, the peristaltic tube pumps are fitted with a stepper motor. This is another step towards individuality in custom-built pumps, which are also easy and inexpensive to fit during final assembly.

New Line of Electronic Pipettes with Industry Leading Guaranteed Performance in Repetitive Pipetting Launched

Gilson has redesigned and expanded the range of its easy-to-use, PIPETMAN® M line of single and multichannel electronic pipettes. The pipettes now include guaranteed performance in repetitive pipetting mode and a programmable custom mode, enhancing results reliability.

For sensitive biological assays like qPCR, repeatable results depend on accurate, precise pipetting, but until now most pipettes only promise performance in one standard pipetting mode both for standard and repetitive tasks. Gilson now guarantees accuracy and precision of the PIPETMAN® M also in repetitive pipetting mode and ensures reliable performance from the first to the last aliquot. In the absence of ISO recommendations for repetitive pipetting mode for air-displacement pipettes, Gilson volumetric specifications for the repetitive mode are within ISO 8655-2 recommendations for standard pipetting.

Five pipetting mode options enable to perform a large number of applications: pipet (standard), repetitive, mix, reverse and custom (personalised) with a fast access menu to all the modes plus the intuitive navigation.

The new personalised pipetting mode lets researchers create their own multi-step pipetting protocols, using the simple PIPETMAN® M Software interface, which can be executed automatically so there is no need for repetitive button pushing that could cause stress injuries. The PIPETMAN® M Software can also be used to easily share protocols for improved security, reproducibility, and keep information traceability.

The product update has also extended the number of models to give one of the most extensive volume ranges in the market. This includes eight single-channel (from 0.5 µL to 10 mL) and 12 multichannel (from 0.5 µL to 1200 µL) options to allow for exact volume selection and optimised pipetting performance.

New Programmable Pump Ideal for OEM Instrument Integration

The Intelligent Programmable Pump from Fluid Metering, Inc combines FMI’s precision valveless STH Stepper Pump with integral programmable driver in a compact design ideal for integration with OEM instrumentation. The driver provides precision servo control of the STH pumps stepper motor for resonance-free, quite operation. Having 5 programmable inputs and 2 outputs, the Intelligent Pump is compatible with multiple programming platforms including, Visual Basic, C/C++, Delphi, LabView. Analogue 0-5 VDC, RS-232, and CANopen protocol are supported with an optional EtherCAT communication module available.

The Programmable Driver and Stepper provide precision control of FMI’s CeramPump® integral valveless piston pump. FMI’s CeramPump® technology features only one moving part, a sapphire-hard ceramic piston, in contact with fluid. The rotating and reciprocating piston accomplishes both the pumping and valving functions effectively eliminating check valves present in conventional reciprocating piston and diaphragm pump designs.
