Sandra Hurtado, owner of Harmony Aesthetics, pictured with Mayor John
Purcell at one of the Senior Vaccinations events held at Yorkville High School in February, signed up to volunteer for the event because she says she likes to help her community. It’s also why she became a Chamber Ambassador in 2018, one year after she joined the Chamber.. “When I joined the Chamber, it was the Ambassador program that made me feel so welcome,” she recalls. “When you first join, you don’t know anybody. It can feel scary at times. Ambassadors came to my ribbon cutting, greeted me and chatted with me at Business Over Coffee, and that’s why our Chamber is so awesome!
“I like to make those business owners who join the Chamber feel their specialness and to show them the connections they can make with other business owners - meet up and have coffee and lunch and get to know each other and become friends. “Joining the Yorkville Chamber was probably one of the most crucial decisions I made as a business owner.”

Jensen says he has had two main goals during the Covid 19 pandemic. First is to make sure that the city
and its residents are safe and that his department provides services in a safe and secure way. Second is to make sure the police
department staff doesn’t contract the virus. To help reach these goals, law

such as requiring everyone wear a mask, closing the building to the public, ending internship programs and keeping his department officials in touch with the Kendall County Health Dept. for updates. “Only two of our personnel contracted the
virus,” he reports. “Our special orders, I truly believe, helped maintain our workforce. I think people here did a fantastice job, protecting themselves, co-workers and families.” Chief Jensen says he thinks we will see our city and county go back to normal in the near future.
“I am very optimitic. I know how hard the Health Dept. is working to vaccinate people.”
