Yorkville Chamber Ambassador Colanne Schwemlein, far right in the photo of a Chamber ribbon cutting ceremony, of Colanne’s Accounting & Tax Services, Sandwich, has been a member of the Chamber for 11 years. “I’m very glad I joined. It’s a great Chamber. I love the people and the energy,” she

says.

Describing herself as someone who has never been good at walking up to people who she doesn’t know, she says that when the Chamber Director Sherri Farley asked her to be an Ambassador about two years ago, it “gave me that little push.” “Now that I have that Ambassador label, I like walking up to that person standing

there and making them feel welcome,” Colanne says. “It’s nice to be able to help people. Some join and don’t know what to do. I tell people to just spend the extra $50 and join a Leads Group. Get to know more people. Don’t just pay your membership dues and think, ‘Oh, now business will come my way.’ You have to put some effort into it yourself.” It’s worked for Colanne. She says after putting in the effort, and thanks to many “Chamber Buddies,” four years ago her business just exploded. As an Ambassador, she wants to help other new members get on the pathway to success.

homedepot.com Although Te Home Depot is the largest home improvement retailer in the

United States, local stores like to be involved in the community, says Damien Madden, operations assistant manager at the Yorkville store. “Home Depot is a community-based store,” he added. “We reach out to the community.” As a 10-year employee of Home Depot, and a new member of the Yorkville

store’s management team, Damien wanted to get more involved with the Chamber and Yorkville. As one of the ways of getting more involved and also responding to the Covid 19 pandemic, the store donated cleaning supplies and sanitizing wipes to the Yorkville Police Dept., 2,000 masks to the Kendall County Sheriff’s Dept., and disinfectants and sanitizers to Rush-Copley’s Yorkville campus. provides sanitation stations at the front of the store, face masks to customers, and has staff sanitize all carts, and do continual extensive cleaning throughout the store. Tey also have hired more employees to act as “runners” to bring groceries out to customers for curbside pickups. And they have joined the Yorkville Area Chamber as a “Partner” member. “Te Chamber’s been great,” Damien says. “Sherri (the executive director) has been great. She’s always very responsive.

A great partner to have. Everyone I’ve spoken to, at the Police Dept., the Sheriff’s Dept., Lynn Dubajic (Yorkville Economic Development consultant), have been very helpful and friendly. Tey’ve taken the time to listen, to give us feedback. It has been a great partnership overall.”
