Ten of CUSD 115’s 16 nurses who have continually worked throughout the school year to keep up with constantly changing IIllinois Dept. of Public Health guidelines to keep Yorkville schools open.
Essential Workers on the Front Lines Yorkville CUSD 115 last August reopened his doors to full-time students whose parents decided they wanted their children in school full-time, while also offering other students the option of part-time attendance or at home schooling. In addition to the administrators and teachers who

strived to make this possible, 70 maintenance workers under Heather DiVerde, director of Facility Operations, and the health service workers overseen by Melinda Lasky, director of Student Services, have been working tirelessly to keep students and staff safe from the Covid 19 virus. “When it started last year, we
ramped up our cleaning and how we were going to take on the new Covid precautions,” Heather says. “We have always used a disinfectant that covers Covid. We hired 10 more custodians. Tey go around the whole school, doing a continuous loop, multiple times a school day. We also purchased 14 UV lights we use nightly in classrooms and throughout the day. We put in hand-cut plexiglass. Our custodians and maintenance staff - we gave them a task and they did an amazing job.” Melinda says her nurses started planning in March for the upcoming school year, studying throughout the summer on how to implement the IDPH guidelines. “Before a student enters the building each day, a parent has to submit a questionaire that screens for any Covid symptoms. Students are required to wear face coverings and social distance.” Anyone with symptoms has to go directly to the Covid
waiting room. A nurse will put on a full PPE including an N95 respirator and then do an evaluation. Melinda said they are certified to give the Covid 19 rapid test with parents’ consent. “We have worked closely with the KC Health Dept., the
fire and police depts. to help get our teachers and students vaccinated.” Melinda says.
