Online event to celebrate International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day will be marked by a Chamber group with a celebration of inspirational women in business across the East Midlands. The Enterprising Women network will host the Celebration of

International Women’s Day event on Friday 12 March from 12pm to 1.30pm. The group’s co-chairs, Chamber president Eileen Richards and past

president Jean Mountain, will welcome a number of speakers from the top of their fields to talk about their business journeys. Among the speakers will be former Leicester Law Society president

Glynis Wright MBE, who left a successful career in the public sector aged 40 to study law and eventually set up her own family law firm in Leicester. Eileen said: “International Women’s Day is a fantastic occasion and great opportunity to showcase some of the amazing women in business we have in the East Midlands. “Role models are so important to nurturing young female talent and this

celebration will give attendees, wherever they are in their career, a great chance to hear about the journeys of other women who are at the top of their industries – leaving with some hugely valuable and inspiring insights. There will also be an opportunity to discuss how members of the

network are continuing to survive in business throughout the pandemic, while non-members can trial the network, make connections and join in with the discussion.

The free event is open to both members and non-members. To book a place, visit bit.ly/ChamberIWD21.

Chamber Connect networking events

Networking within the Chamber has taken on a fresh new look with the launch of a new event series. Chamber Connect, which is

held twice a month, replaces Pure Networking and offers more opportunities for businesses to share knowledge and develop new connections virtually. Aimed predominantly at SMEs, it provides a forum for members to network and meet new contacts, creating the potential for these connections to grow and develop into long- lasting relationships. New features in the revised

format, launched last month, include:

Member presentation: A 15- minute presentation from a Chamber member covering a service or approach they feel other businesses would benefit from

Toasting the success of UpScaler Project with BrewDog speaker

A member of the BrewDog C-suite is the keynote speaker at an event that will celebrate the success of the D2N2 Growth Hub UpScaler Project. President and group chief operations officer David

McDowall will tell the story of the Scottish craft brewery and pub chain’s journey from a microbrewery set up in 2007 into a global brand that now exports to more than 60 markets and has 100 bars around the world. He will be joined by businesses that have taken part in

the UpScaler Project, which helps fast-growing companies in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire with a turnover of between £1m and £15m to scale up. Support includes guidance from a dedicated business

adviser, access to grants for coaching support and hiring graduates and peer network activity. There is also a comprehensive events programme

covering topics specifically designed to upskill businesses. The European Regional Development Fund-backed

programme has been delivered by the Chamber, in partnership with Nottingham Business School, since March 2019 and runs until June 2021. The virtual event, which will take place on 29

March from 1pm to 4pm, will showcase the impact the project has had on hundreds of businesses, as well as exploring the future of high-growth business support. Other speakers include Danielle

Asano, of Cherry Professional; Tony Buck, of Oasis Studio; and Jon Parker, of Integrated Transport Solutions.

To register for the free event, visit bit.ly/D2N2BrewDog.

Breakout networking: Three breakout sessions providing attendees with the opportunity to network with other people and hold more focused conversations

Member spotlights: Two presentations, each lasting five minutes, from members about their organisation and how they can support other members

Member spotlight draw: At the end of each event, the Chamber will randomly draw names from those attending to select the speakers for the next member spotlight.

Director of partnerships David Pearson said: “During the challenges faced over the past 12 months, we’ve witnessed some brilliant examples of collaborations across the Chamber as businesses have helped each other get through this pandemic. “Being at the very heart of

what a chamber of commerce is all about, we’d love to see even more of this in 2021, which is why we’re delighted to refresh the previous Pure Networking events with the new-look Chamber Connect series.”

Upcoming Chamber Connect events will be held on 16 March at 4pm, 1 April at 9.30am, 20 April at 4pm, 6 May at 9.30am and 18 May at 4pm. For more information, visit www.emc- dnl.co.uk/supporting- growth/pure-networking/.
