MEMBERNEWS MEMBER FOCUS: MY HR HUB
With the changes the Covid-19 pandemic has brought to the way we work, Nottinghamshire- based HR consultancy My HR Hub is a prime example of how businesses tailored their services to support others in the past year. Founder and owner Rebecca Bull explains to Business Network how she helped small businesses navigate the range of challenges at work and home during the pandemic.
Tell us what your company does and a brief overview of its history? My HR Hub was created by myself in 2016 for start-ups, small businesses and fast growth companies, to provide advice and support for their growth and help them become great employers – and therefore great places to work. I worked in the corporate world for 20 years for large companies before starting up my own business as I had a drive to support small businesses. My HR Hub was the first HR
model of its kind in the UK. Its new product My HR Club launched in 2019, which is also the only club in the UK that supports those in stand-alone HR and business roles. We have won several awards in
the past four years and continued to grow through customer referrals and strategic partnerships, and recently, have expanded the team to seven.
Who are your main customers and what is your USP to them? We support start-ups, small businesses, and those with ambitions to be a fast-growth company. We work with many businesses across 20 different industry sectors in the UK and overseas – our smallest client has two employees whereas our largest has 350. We provide a range of products
and services for an SME budget across HR consultancy, recruitment, employee engagement, HR cloud- based systems, line manager training and health and wellbeing. In 2019 we launched our low-
cost, remote, self-service business called My HR Club. This is aimed at HR professionals, small businesses and charities to offer a “one stop shop” on a budget. This covers a fully-stocked HR portal with all the forms, policies and letters you need to run compliant HR in any business. We also run weekly workshops on current topics to upskill and inform our clients.
22 business networkMarch 2021 We are constantly innovating - it
is important to predict the market and trends to provide a solution for clients before then even know they need it.
What is your role in the business and what does your day-to-day role involve? Anyone in working HR will tell you that the role is like “a box of chocolates” and I thrive on the variety within the industry. I would say my role splits from
running the business and supporting clients on a range of HR challenges from recruitment, including team building, redundancies, policy, employee relations and HR strategy, to name a few. I’m also involved with the
business and product development side of the company, alongside fostering new supplier partnerships and strategic partnerships. Our business model is based on
recommendations and referrals from existing clients and partners, so it is key to nurture these relationships – which I have been committed to since forming the company.
How have you fared during the Covid-19 pandemic? We have been incredibly busy supporting our clients from March 2020. This started with business
continuity planning in the early weeks, through to offering daily and weekly Zoom calls, and an advice hotline to support clients with issues regarding furlough and redundancies, among the wide range of challenges at work and home during this period. We have held over 900 Zoom
meetings since last March with industry experts – to discuss topics including health and safety, occupational health, immigration, health and wellbeing and employment law – so we can share up-to-date information to our clients when they needed it most. We have used My HR Club as a
vehicle to deliver a small business community so clients can connect, share experiences and ideas.
What are the company’s plans for the future? We have recently partnered with The Creative Industries Federation and Creative England as its HR partner to deliver cost-effective HR services to the creative sector across the UK. We have plans to work more strategically with partners and expand My HR Club across UK-wide territories. Employee and business owner
health and wellbeing is at the heart of what we do so we will announce some exciting news on this subject later in the year. We have also increased the team
from just me to seven, working across HR and marketing so we have more capacity to grow our client base.
