Funding helps secure drug treatment services
Launch of mental health support
To mark International Women’s day on 8 March, Leicester-based Shama Women’s Centre is launching a new mental health support package for businesses. The support package will include
downloadable resources, interactive workshops, management training and access to professional counselling and therapies. Business development officer
Krupa Joshi-Bhatt said: “One in six people experience mental health problems at work and women in full-time employment are nearly twice as likely to have a common mental health problem as full-time employed men. “Shama Women’s Centre has 36
years of expertise in providing mental health support services and the organisation is well-placed to help businesses – and their staff – through these unprecedented times healthy and confident.”
An £80,000 grant from a Leicestershire charitable foundation has helped secure an extra £80m for drug treatment services in England. The funding will be used as part of
Government’s efforts to cut crime and will mean more places for people released from prison and convicted criminals handed community sentences. The Randal Charitable Foundation, based in Loughborough, provided the grant to think-tank the Centre for Social Justice’s (CSJ) Policy Unit, which has been working with Government departments to deliver policy recommendations to help tackle the root causes of addiction, as well as to support victims and their families. Dr Nik Kotecha OBE,
(pictured) chair of trustees for the Randal Charitable Foundation and founder
of Loughborough-based Morningside Pharmaceuticals, said: “We are immensely proud to have been able to support the CSJ with their work with Government, which has been instrumental in raising awareness of the devastation addiction causes to lives. “Addiction remains a shocking feature
of life in many disadvantaged neighbourhoods; it can shred the fabric of society, lead to family breakdown, ruin childhoods and can lead to welfare dependency, and interaction with the criminal justice system. “The CSJ’s campaign has significantly
contributed to a shift in policy and now direct action is taking place. This announcement will help tackle addiction and support those suffering from addiction into recovery.” The Randal Charitable Foundation's
work involves helping to relieve sickness, as well as preserve and protect good health – in particular the treatment of addiction linked to alcohol, drugs, and gambling in the UK.
