Remote commissioning of winder drives for ITC in India

I

ndian paperboard and speciality paper producer ITC has achieved better uptime, improved reliability

and better runnability following the installation and remote commissioning of winder drives

by ABB. This project included upgrading the mill’s complete winder drive system to ABB’s latest ACS880 drives, AC motors, AC800M controller and process panel, as well as ensuring that all new

assets were fully commissioned and ready for operation. Following studies of the existing PM5 machine, detailed task planning, and numerous checks on the safety aspects of every task, ABB’s domain expertise helped the team complete the commissioning in just three days. ITC engineers conducted a series of installations, hardware and I/O checks, and reporting of field challenges. Team feedback indicated the user-friendly ABB system assisted with this site work. As a result of the drives

Xuan Mai Paper starts up new tissue line in Vietnam

A new tissue making line has been successfully started up by Andritz at Xuan Mai Paper’s mill at Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. The PrimeLineCompact tissue machine has a design speed of 1,300 metres per minute and a paper width of 2.85m and produces high-quality tissue grades made of either virgin or deinked pulp (DIP). It is equipped with a 15- foot steel Yankee with a PrimeDry Hood Combo from Andritz Novimpianti. The innovative hood design – a pressurised wet chamber heated with steam and a special dry chamber – is said to enable highly-efficient drying while saving energy. The scope of supply includes a

separate DIP line (which was due to be started up in December), a stock preparation system for LBKP/NBKP market pulp, an approach flow system, a fibre recovery and broke handling system, machine clothing by Andritz Fabrics and Rolls, basic and detailed engineering, as well as process pumps for water and pulp. The complete line is equipped with a PrimeControl automation package and an advanced multi- motor drive system. Commenting on the cooperation

between Xuan Mai Paper and Andritz China despite the challenging conditions presented by Covid-19, Phạm Văn Dũng, director of Xuan Mai Paper, said: “We had a tight and demanding

accurate load share and tension, while also experiencing higher operating speeds, with improved uptime and reliability. Initial feedback from ITC

reported improved runnability and reliability, while devising a solution for remote commissioning helped to reduce unnecessary downtime. “Our ABB team mobilised quickly and used its remote expertise to complete this large-scale commissioning project, overseeing all drive parameterization, controller and human-machine interface (HMI) programming, testing and commissioning,” said Sanath Kumar, product manager and head of engineering for process industries at ABB India.
