Energy award for Cascades after fitting Yankee hood


C


ascades Tissue Group has won an energy efficiency award in Wisconsin following the


replacement of a Yankee hood at its Eau Claire mill by Andritz. Due to the energy savings achieved, the tissue maker was awarded the 2020 Energy Efficiency Excellence Award by Focus on Energy, Wisconsin’s energy efficiency and renewable energy resources programme. This programme encompasses


107 utilities across the state, with the goal of providing expertise and financial incentives to residents and businesses to reduce energy consumption or increase energy efficiency. The Energy Efficiency Excellence Awards honour participants who have shown a commitment to leading in energy efficiency.


The PrimeDry Hood, specially designed for low energy consumption and long durability, was fitted to a 12-foot Yankee on


Eau Claire’s PM5, a medium-speed machine for the production of dry-crepe tissue. With the upgrade output increased remarkably while reducing specific gas consumption by the hood. The project was executed by


the Andritz tissue team located in the Montreal office, QC, which provides support services for tissue machines and for air and energy systems in the Americas market.

Extensive tissue machine rebuild at Metsä Tissue’s Mänttä mill


The PM10 tissue machine at Metsä Tissue’s Mänttä mill in Finland is to be extensively rebuilt, including the control system, by Valmet. The undisclosed investment is part of Metsä Tissue’s Future Mill programme in which the mill’s energy and production efficiency


will be improved along with production capacity, and product quality.


It will be the third Advantage


ViscoNip press installation for Metsä Tissue, following similar projects at Raubach’s TM1 in Germany and at Pauliström in Sweden.


The project will also include a


drying section equipped with a steel Advantage Yankee Dryer and an Advantage AirCap hood. A Valmet DNA system featuring the latest drive and safety controls, mill engineering, installation supervision and auxiliary systems will also be used.

The paper machine’s renewal will provide consumers with increasingly soft and strong paper while significantly reducing the amount of energy used to produce it. “This will reduce carbon dioxide emissions in accordance with our sustainability goals.”
