Recyclable paper packaging for Smarties
Smarties, the multi-coloured chocolate confectionary, is now being packaged in recyclable paper- based materials for the first time worldwide. Previously the packaging had been only 10 per cent made from recycled paper products. Swiss-based manufacturer
Nestlé says that it is the first global confectionary brand to use recyclable packaging, and is removing about 250 million plastic packs sold every year worldwide.
When originally launched in 1938, Smarties were packed in cardboard tubes, but they were replaced in 2005.
