Corfe Mullen Town Council
February is the only month to have a length of fewer than 30 days! Though it’s usually 28 days, this year is a Leap Year and has 29 days, so I wish an especially happy birthday to anyone in the community born on 29 February!
Many of us will be looking forward to the spring and warmer weather however, for those who enjoy getting out and about amongst nature, Kingston Lacy offers the opportunity to walk amongst the snowdrops. Snowdrops flower at Kingston Lacy throughout January and February, though the best time to see them is normally in February. Normal property admission applies.
Work on our community allotments continues. Some remedial works have been necessary and the Clerk and I have worked to ensure that these are carried out, at no expense to the Council. It has been great to see allotment holders getting on site and starting to cultivate their plots. I have enjoyed speaking with them and hearing about their ambitions and goals for their plots as well as welcoming new plot holders.
Council has awarded the Small Grants for 2019- 20, supporting local organisations and charities. Continued revenue funding has been granted for the
Corfe Mullen Youth Trust for 2020-21 and beyond. In addition, Capital funding for the Corfe Mullen Village Hall, 2020-21 has been granted.
Congratulations go to the Beacon Road Firewise Community, who are this year’s winners of the Dorset Police ‘Watch of the Year Award’. The award is presented to the Watch Group that is considered to have contributed the most to their community over the last twelve months in addressing local concerns and thereby helping to make their part of Dorset safer and feel safer.
The Firewise Communities programme started in the USA and is an international programme that empowers neighbours and communities encouraging community spirit, resolve and willingness to take responsibility and work together to reduce risk from wildfire.
I am very proud to be part of this community led group and the tremendous effort that has been put in by all of those involved.
