News from Westminster

Thank you to every single person who voted for me in the election. But whether you voted for me or not, I am here to serve the whole of Mid Dorset and North Poole as your MP.

As I write this month’s column, it is still mid-January, and Parliament has resumed sitting. We returned to Westminster with a very different government from that before the election. With a majority government there is a more settled feel to proceedings, and the fi rst job of business in the House of Commons was to pass the Withdrawal Agreement. This was done, and it was then passed to the House of Lords. As I write, it looks as though it will pass smoothly through the Parliamentary process, to ensure an orderly exit from the European Union.

As always, there has been other important work in both Parliament and the constituency. I have had productive meetings with the leaders of both BCP Council and Dorset Council, along with MP colleagues. We discussed a variety of issues concerning the constituency, including connectivity, funding applications for the local area and general funding for Dorset and Poole.

I have also had meetings with the Dorset Local Enterprise Partnership, and with several local businesses to discuss how best to support businesses in Dorset in the coming year. I have visited several local charities to discuss their work in the community, and I have been holding my regular surgeries for constituents.

I will be attending a service in Wimborne Minster to remember the Holocaust at the end of January. I was humbled by my visit to the World Holocaust Remembrance Centre Yad Vashem in Israel

a few years ago, and I will be sharing a few of my thoughts at the service about that visit. Anti- Semitism has no place in our society, and we must never forget what horrors it can lead to. This year Holocaust Memorial Day will be commemorating not just the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, but also the 25th anniversary of the Genocide in Bosnia.

I will continue to update my website with news and events, so that you can see what I have been doing in both Dorset and Parliament. I send out a regular e-newsletter as well, please do visit my website if you would like to sign up.

If you would like to visit Parliament or have an issue that you need help with, please do get in touch.
