Broadstone Middle School has been rewarded for three years of hard work with a GOOD result from the OfSTED Inspection held in December.
The results showed that Broadstone Middle School is ‘Good in every Category’ of the inspection and shows signifi cant improvement thanks to the school’s leadership and staff members’ hard work and dedication. The school was rated Requires Improvement in 2017.
The inspection team this time noted: “Leaders have shaped the curriculum so that pupils improve their knowledge across a broad range of subjects. They have been creative and innovative, thinking about how the middle school context fi ts with pupils’ wider educational journey.”
Broadstone Middle School is part of the Castleman Academy Trust of schools and as the only ‘Middle’ school in the BCP Council authority, the school has often faced challenges. The journey over the past few years has been one of ambitious improvement and the team have designed a curriculum which encourages their students to refl ect on themselves as learners and enables them to use their learning in a real-life context.
The inspection team particularly commented upon the ‘University of Broadstone Curriculum’ which has been an integral part of the school, where all students across all year groups take ‘study modules’ on a weekly basis over a wide variey of topics, from cross-stitching and Italian to navigation and computer coding.
They were also impressed by the students courtesy and care for one another, including their ‘Are You Okay?’ club, which has helped them signifi cantly and was summed up
perfectly by one student’s comment of: “This is a school you can rely on.”
Dawn Wilks, Executive Headteacher of BMS is delighted by the result and was particularly pleased with how the inspectors saw the great opportunities offered to the children and commented to parents: “Your children were, as always, the ‘stars of the show’. Their conversations with the inspectors were interesting, honest and enthusiastic. Their behaviour was exemplary, they were keen to share all they do and the inspectors were most impressed. They were quite simply, marvellous!”
The outstanding support from parents was also evident and Rhonda Moore, Chief Executive of the Castleman Academy Trust, praised their input and positivity: “The support we have received from our parents is truly humbling and we would like to thank you for taking the time to support us through the inspection and indeed, throughout our journey.” She added: “The Trust Directors are very pleased that the hard work of all involved with the school has been recognised by OfSTED”.
The Head of School, Jade Palmer, was also keen to highlight that whilst the team are all delighted with the ‘Good’ result they will not be resting on their laurels, Jade continued: “We have many plans to ensure our students learning is even more meaningful and successful in the future.”
