Defi bgram started as a Facebook page in March 2019. Its founder – local carer Martyn Pope – wanted to use social media as a way to promote awareness of local defi b locations. Martyn had been shown an online defi b map, on a fi rst aid course years before, and had noticed several of his local defi bs weren’t mapped.
Defi bagram’s goal is to raise awareness of all types of defi brillators across the South West – even those that are not accessible 24/7, to support communities to recognise their importance and to encourage people to ask themselves ‘where is my nearest defi b?’
Although calling 999 should be the priority when cardiac arrest occurs, CPR is only so effective and while ambulances go fast, time is of the essence. ‘Defi brillation within 3-5 minutes of collapse can produce survival rates as high as 70%’. Everyone second counts when you need one.
