Dorset Council report

I receive complaints about the state of the roads and footpaths in Corfe Mullen on a regular basis. Most are about potholes, although I also receive complaints about overgrown hedges, trees and verges, weeds blocking pavements and, occasionally, loose manhole covers.

I usually get in touch with the highways department helpline at Dorset Council, either by phone or, preferably, by email. This helpline is available for everyone and it is very easy to use. Just log onto the Dorset Council website (www.dorsetforyou.gov. uk) and select ‘Roads and Transport’. Then select ‘Report a Road Issue’. This will immediately take you to a page entitled ‘Report a problem on a road or pavement’.

The page has 12 boxes. In order to report a problem with a pothole just click on the box labelled ‘Pothole’. This will take you to the page labelled ‘Report a pothole’. You will be asked for information about the location of the pothole and its approximate width and depth. You can also upload a photograph of the pothole if you want to. The whole process should take no longer than two minutes. When you have completed the information you will be given a job

number. You can use this to fi nd out what action the Council takes to get rid of the pothole.

It is possible to also use this method to report other road problems, for example, problems with street lighting, abandoned vehicles, fl y tipping, dog fouling, etc.

However, please be aware that hazardous road or footpath problems and obstructions likely to cause injury or damage should be reported as soon as possible to Dorset Council using their 24-hour highway emergency line – 01305 221020.

If you wish to contact me about matters regarding Dorset Council, please call or email. If you wish to discuss any matter in person with me I am available at my ‘Councillor Surgery’ in Corfe Mullen Library from 10.30-11.30am on the fi rst Saturday of each month.
