WELLNESS, THE BODY AND WINTER

COMFORTS By Kim Murray EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGIST AND ATHLETE

New Year’s resolutions have a bit of a bad rep due to them never lasting. Despite this I love the notion of wanting to improve our self or our life and think the new year is a really natural time to reflect and set goals.

Goals should be specific, measurable and achievable but also mean something to you. My goal for 2020 is to better manage my energy, which is finite. I’m notoriously bad for putting too much on my plate, and often run myself into the ground, risking injury or illness.

I think this is a common problem in today’s society, where we do more than ever before and are exposed to others making it all look easy. This can often lead to us feeling like we are not doing enough, which is unlikely to be the case and creates a vicious cycle.

I have started by understanding what ‘fully charged’ and ‘empty’ looks like and identifying things that sap and give me energy. For example, when I am feeling happy (fully charged) I sleep well and when I am having a bad day (empty) I sleep badly. I know that feeling rushed saps my energy whereas having time to reflect and create structure gives me energy.

The next step is to recognise the sappers and the bad days and put things in place that stop you hitting empty. This involves committing to actions and having a support network. An action that is really useful is writing down three things I am grateful for every day. It helps me find perspective and brings me back to the present day.

The process is quite simple, give it a try. Learning to manage our energy is hugely beneficial for our everyday wellness. Stress will be lower; happiness will be improved, and we will have more motivation to achieve our goals – whatever they may be.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have a luxury pedicure from a foot health practitioner? Including a soothing foot massage to help you relax and give you a feeling of total wellbeing.

Isle of Wight Feet provide complementary foot therapies to help relieve pain, aid relaxation and help you feel more comfortable. Nicole Sturgess S.A.C Dip FHPT, FHPP has been with the company for two years and has 20 years’ experience in the beauty therapy industry and has now completed her Foot Health Practitioner Diploma lv 4.

She can offer luxury pedicures that include treatments to support the health of the foot, reflexology and foot massage, any of these treatments can be upgraded with an application of warm wax enveloping the feet to give extra relaxation and moisture and completed with an application of Dr Remedy healthy nail varnish.

Nicole’s treatments ensure professionalism and hygiene. All the tools used within a treatment are sterilised in an auto clave after every use and within pedicure treatments a chiropody standard wet drill is used to remove hard skin and thin down nails where required.

A luxury pedicure begins with a foot spa soak and scrub using high quality brands of products. Nails will be cut and filed correctly, cuticles tidied and finished with a relaxing foot and leg massage.

Nicole offers three different types of foot massage, with each tailored to your well-being needs. Choose from Thai Foot Massage, which is a very stimulating foot massage to help unblock energy flow, stimulate circulation and ease foot tension; Reflexology, which works on all of the body through pressure points on the feet; or a Foot Manipulation Massage, which is specially designed by Nicole and Podiatrist Jason to help stimulate circulation, manipulate and ease stiff feet. These are excellent for arthritis and circulatory problems or just for general relaxation.
