MOTORING

A taste of Korea in Rotherham

If you’re looking to get behind the wheel of a new car in 2020, you don’t have to drive for miles in search of the right motor for you.

At Douglas Paul at Hellaby, they have a range of new and used cars to take your driving up a gear, whatever your motoring needs. Launched in Rotherham in the mid-70s, the family-run car dealership has become a trusted name in the local motoring industry thanks to their traditional customer service and wide range of quality cars available.

Having moved to the current site at Hellaby 30 years ago, Douglas Paul is continuing to improve its offering with a fresh selection of new cars.

Last summer, they introduced SsangYong to the dealership; one of the oldest Korean car makers recognised for its 4x4 and ‘proper’ SUV models, albeit relatively rare amongst UK car owners.

If you’re unaccustomed with SsangYong, new-car salesman, Mike Hunter, is always on hand to explain the benefits of SsangYong and show you the different models available.

With such an expansive car market, searching for a new car can be exhausting. But SsangYong is hailed as the ‘all-rounder’, combining space and comfort with style and technology at a fraction of the price.

With ‘on the road’ prices shaving up to ten percent off their nearest competitors, SsangYong offers an affordable range of cars that don’t scrimp on the luxury feel and driving experience. For those looking for something bigger than your typical hatchback, the Tivoli is the stylish crossover – a small SUV-style car which is one of the biggest in its class. With a six-speed gearbox as standard, choose between manual or automatic in 1.6 litre petrol or diesel engines. In recent years there has been a rise in demand for SUVs, particularly for families looking for a car that can handle the rough and tumble of everyday life, from the hectic school run to towing the caravan.

New to the SsangYong line up is the revived Korando SUV, now in its fourth – and best – generation. Although having been in production for almost 40 years, the all-new Korando has been given a makeover to finally stand up against its rivals like the Sportage and Qashqai. With the entry-level model coming in at less than £20,000, you get a lot of car for your money. The Korando is a true SUV with off-road features boasting huge interior space for both driver and passenger comfort.

Exclusive to the Ultimate model is also the Blaze Cockpit, a first for SsangYong which features custom mood lighting in 34 colours plus smart technology and two digital displays to reimagine the driving experience.

As a car manufacturer, SsangYong has spent 60 years developing its four-wheel-drive options and the Rexton offers everything you’d expect in a quality 4x4 – except the price. Up against the likes of Jeep Wrangler, Mercedes-Benz G-Class and Mitsubishi Shogun, the Rexton was named the Best Value, Best

Off-Roader and overall Best 4x4 at the 4x4 Magazine’s 4x4 of the Year awards 2018, and Best Value at last year’s awards. It’s a muscular model with a bold and impressive exterior, with luxury inbuilt into the interior incorporating adaptable layout in five or seven-seat options for the ultimate flexibility. Under the hood is also the option of a seven-speed Mercedes-Benz E-Tronic automatic transmission.

With all of this and more, it is clear to see why pound for pound the Rexton is one of the best value 4x4s on the road, with the standard model coming in at less than £30,000.

While family cars make up the bulk of the SsangYong collection at Douglas Paul, they also have a commercial offering in the form of the Musso pick-up truck. Korean for rhino, the Musso is strong and powerful yet smart and intelligent. It combines heavy-duty pulling power of over 6.5 tonne combined towing and payload capacity with a 2.2 litre turbo diesel engine and hill start assist in two or four-wheel drive options to ensure maximum grip.

All of the models include a sleek infotainment system with options of a touchscreen display and phone connectivity to AndroidAuto and Apple CarPlay, plus smart safety driving features for electronic driver assistance.

If you’re in the market for a new car, give your ideas the green light at Douglas Paul.
