Broadstone Neighbourhood Forum
May we wish everyone a happy, peaceful and prosperous New Year.
While the year ahead is unpredictable, one thing is certain, the Neighbourhood Forum will be busy.
Preparations have started for our Annual General Meeting, which is due to take place towards the end of March. The date and venue are yet to be confi rmed, but we will publish these on the community noticeboards once we know.
In the meantime, we have recently received good news following the application for a grant from Locality, a charity organisation that manages Government funding for Neighbourhood Planning. We are to receive £8,000 to enable us to carry out a review of our existing Neighbourhood Plan. The Plan has now been in operation for a little over one year and the evidence we are building shows that it has had a positive impact on planning decisions, including appeal decisions by Government Inspectors. However, it has also revealed a need to modify some of the existing policies as a result of the adoption of Poole’s Local Plan. The need to review has also been prompted by the new BCP Council’s decision to accelerate the development of a single Local Plan for the whole conurbation. The next three months should see the development of a new Design Code for Broadstone, which will ensure any new build will have to be both energy effi cient and address the carbon footprint. We will also be looking to ensure biodiversity is given an even more signifi cant place within the Neighbourhood Plan than it has at present. If we can stick to our work schedule, then we would hope to present the changes at the AGM as part of a consultation exercise.
We have, very belatedly, had an on-site meeting with one of BCP Council’s Highways offi cers to look at some of the suggestions for changes to the Broadway, which were originally discussed at our last AGM. We hope to meet again in early January so that we can take some of the ideas further. Clearly cost is a major factor, but if they can be incorporated into a wider scheme agreed by the Council then additional funding may be available from Government. As in the past, any proposals we may put forward will be subject to public consultation.
As mentioned in our last update, we are aware of a possible application for funding from our Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) fund. A

further meeting with the potential applicants is scheduled for the beginning of January, by which time we will have a better idea of the scheme and its potential to enhance an otherwise uninviting part of central Broadstone. Our CIL fund continues to grow and while this is good news in that it increases the possibilities of what the Forum itself can achieve, the lack of appropriate applications from the community is disappointing. Further details can be requested by contacting the Forum:

Anyone interested in fi nding out more about the work of the Neighbourhood Forum is welcome to attend our monthly meetings, now being held on a Monday evening from 7pm at Broadstone Youth Centre. Agreed dates for the next three months are 13 January, 10 February and 9 March.
