Poole Athletic Club

Cross-Country News: Back in November we had male runners in the races of British “Cross Challenge” Match 3 at Sefton Park, Liverpool. These attracted big numbers, e.g. Jamie Grose finishing 125 out of 624 in the Senior Men’s race and Will Rabjohns 12 out of 152 in the u15 Boys’. Will was the British u13 Cross Champion in the past two seasons: now he is first-year u15 and still managing top-12 ranking! After Hampshire League Match 3 at Aldershot, Lexie Brown remains unbeaten in the u13 girls. Also featuring was the u17W team of Emily P (4), Ashia W (5), and Isobel R (15), their 24 points placing them as second team (out of 11).

Indoors: Racing on a rubber or carpeted 200m track with banked bends and a noisy crowd is a different experience and in early December we had six members competing at three different venues. In Cardiff, the Welsh Junior Championships included the South-West Championships. Liam Nixon was the best (gold) from the S-W in the u17M 200m. (23.92) and 400m. (53.99). The latter is a Club Record. Mahlia-Pia Johnson (pictured) was busy in the u13G events: she took the

S-W bronze in the High Jump (1.20m) – this too being a Club Record – and also contested Long Jump and 200m!

Meanwhile at Eton, Adam Booth set a PB in the 60m (7.22) and broke the Club Record in the 60m Hurdles (8.31). Two others ran at Lee Valley.

Junior Club Presentation Evening: We were grateful and privileged to have the services of local double- Olympian Liz Yelling to be our Guest of Honour. We had food, raffle, disco and presented 44 awards to recognise the national achievements by Adam Booth (pictured), Emily Parker, Melissa Bryant, and Will Rabjohns. But also the u11 Champion Ethan Crowley and those rated as Improver, Endeavour and Newcomer.

We wish all our members, supporters and readers sincere Season’s Greetings for a Joyous Christmas and a Peaceful New Year.
