SPONSORSHIP IN FOCUS

Enhance your brand through sponsorship

By Sanjib Sahota (pictured), the Chamber’s Commercial Partnerships Manager

Sponsorship isn't a new or innovative concept, so why has it become an integral part of so many marketing strategies today? The rise of sponsorship over the past decade has

been phenomenal and is an industry estimated to be worth over £50bn globally (give or take a few pounds). In fact, sponsorship investment has risen by over 100% in the past ten years and the growth is continuing. So why is sponsorship such an attractive

proposition? Consumer and brand behaviour has led to marketing

methods constantly evolving. The challenge for brands is to gain an edge or advantage over competitors in a crowded market place. Marketing for any brand is important but for me, if a business wants to look at engaging with consumers or the market in a cost effective way to achieve its strategic objectives, sponsorship is a versatile proposition. Sponsorship is an ideal conduit to connect with consumers, raise a brand’s profile and stay two steps ahead of competitors. People want experiences they can remember and to connect with brands in a meaningful way; sponsorship enables brands to do just that. Before utilising your marketing budget on

advertising, buying data, spending money on consumer insights, algorithms, software, exhibiting at a show, television or radio spots or any other marketing spend, sponsorship is a viable option you should consider alongside your other marketing approaches. Why?

1. INCREASE BRAND AWARENESS If your brand is looking to raise its profile and stand out from the crowd or competitors then sponsorship can support this as a part of your marketing strategy. Look at maximising the benefits from the rights holder and take advantage of every opportunity to expose your brand across all of the channels available.

2. BRAND ASSOCIATION Aligning your brand to a sponsorship property or another brand can help with creating a positive association. Your aim should be to create long term loyalty and trust in the market place. Form relationships with brands that have similar values and be a part of their community.

3. ACCESS TO HARD TO REACH CONSUMERS Sponsorship can provide you with a great opportunity to access new or hard to reach audiences. Utilising the rights holder's networks and media channels can give you access which you may not normally have increase

engagement. An alternative approach may also be more time consuming, costly or may not yield the desired results.

4. POSITIVE RETURN ON INVESTMENT Sponsorship as part of your marketing strategy can assist with a positive ROI. Exploit the benefits from the rights holder and utilise this to ensure you have an opportunity to achieve your objectives. Create a longer-term brand equity association via the sponsorship package.

5. ENHANCE CUSTOMER EXPERIENCES If you can give your consumers a great experience than this will assist in achieving many objectives. We remember good experiences whether they are at an event, online or face-to-face.

The Chamber offers many sponsorship opportunities for all budgets, including for various events held throughout the year.
