About: Te premier event held by the largest and most important crane, rigging, and lifting professional association—the Annual Conference—occurs every year in April. Te Specialized Carriers and Rigging Association (SC&RA) has a membership of 1,400+ individuals from 46 nations, which means all of their events (but especially the major ones) are worth a special trip.
Attendees: Industry owners, top managers and leaders, and CEOs are all typically in attendance at the Annual Conference. Additionally, the C&R Workshop is a who’s- who of the industry and is well-attended, with the Exhibitor Center selling out and seeing major traffic each year.
Highlights: Te Annual Conference includes education sessions by well-known authors and speakers, committee meetings, receptions and other networking opportunities, golf and tennis tournaments, a fundraising gala, the renowned Job of the Year competitions, safety awards and a Products Fair. Te Workshop, held annually in September, is widely regarded as the crane and rigging event of the year. Workshop sessions have an emphasis on safety, regulatory and consensus standards, training, equipment maintenance, and current issues affecting the industry.

About: Over forty years after its inception, the Associated Wire Rope Fabricators (AWRF) stands as one of the foremost lifting/rigging and load-securement associations in the world. Te AWRF holds two general meetings a year, one each in the spring and fall. Since the organization is committed to promoting common interests shared by companies manufacturing, fabricating, or distributing lifting, rigging, and load securement devices, the General Meetings focus on issues closely focused on those industries. Every third meeting includes a Product Information Exhibition, or PIE.
Attendees: Te AWRF’s membership and event attendee population is made up of around 400 companies comprising wire rope, cordage, and sling fabricators, as well as rigging component manufacturers and suppliers from around the world. Events that include a PIE feature more than 100 suppliers in a one-day exhibition format. Tis provides an opportunity for attendees to meet with leading suppliers and learn about their products and services one-on-one.
Highlights: Tere are a number of networking opportunities, from a golf tournament to several different receptions, as well as a tour of select attractions in the host city. Te Board of Directors holds a meeting, and speakers present on topics like trade policy updates, product liability lawsuit preparation, safety standards, and more. We should add that the AWRF really blew the roof off in 2019 with not-to-be-missed banquet events. Te spring meeting in Cleveland included dinner and a live band at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and this fall’s San Diego event included dinner and music on the deck of the USS Midway.
