[INDUSTRY NEWS]

attendees through the story of one of the first industrialized landscapes in Britain. Jason Colwell, managing director of

Crosby Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), said: “While the event celebrates 100 years of forging in a region steeped in history, we are equally using the occasion to mark a point in time from which to continue to shape the future. There will be an inevitable nostalgia about the day, but Crosby Premier Stampings will gather with its community to make a statement about achieving many more years of success, backed by ongoing investment, at the cutting edge of its trade.” Today, the Premier Stampings facility

spans 63,000 square feet and employs 80 people, who play a role in forging and machining lifting and rigging products that are shipped across the world. Significant investment, particularly over the last 15 years, has seen Premier Stampings become a complete, vertically integrated forging business, boasting state-of-the-art heat treatment, machining and testing products. Anthony Thomas, general manager of

Crosby Premier Stampings and a 30-year veteran of the company, said: “We are the last remaining volume-lifting component manufacturer in the UK. We can finish components from 0.1 to 55kg in gross weight from start to finish. We make products for operations where safety is a primary consideration and our customers recognize that we are offering a high quality, high value service from a region that has forging in its DNA.” Among those already committed to

attend the event are customers from Dubai, India, South Africa, mainland Europe and the UK, the majority of which represent the Crosby supply chain. Thomas confirmed that 90% of the company’s business relates to Crosby lifting and rigging hardware products, with remaining capacity filled by demand for engineered products for the local market. He said: “We have UK-based distributors

that have been with us for 40 years, since before we were part of the Crosby portfolio. Many of them will take a tour of our facility and the museum for the first time. It will be fascinating for them to note that actually forging hasn’t really changed that much over the years; what has evolved is the equipment and technology that we use. We have historical references to forging lifting components as far back as the 1930s at our original home in Masters Lane, Blackheath,

for what was then a local B2B customer base. The world has changed a great deal since, but we’ve managed to thrive during many chapters of history and are very excited about forging the future.” Robert Desel, Crosby CEO, said: “I am

looking forward to celebrating the 100th year of Crosby Premier Stamping with our team members, customers, and the local community. This plant, the people that work here and the products it manufactures are another example of Crosby’s commitment to safety, innovation, and reliability supporting safe, effective and efficient lifting at job sites, plants and rigs around the world.” y

Crosby Mobilizes UK Safety on Tour Trailer

> UK-based end users of Crosby equipment can request visits from a newly launched trailer that also formed the company’s exhibit at this year’s LiftEx, which took place on 13-14 November. The Crosby Group is welcoming requests

for visits at rigcrosby.com as the Rig Safe Rig Smart European Trailer makes its way around the UK. It has already stopped to deliver toolbox training in Hull, Liverpool, Doncaster, Cardiff and Portsmouth, while locations in Southampton, Aberdeen and Ireland are among upcoming destinations. The unique, purpose-built vehicle is

the first of its kind in the UK but is based on the popularity of a pair of Ford Ranger trucks that have been converted for a similar purpose in the USA. It is equipped with a fleet of lifting and rigging products, including a 500kg capacity electric crane, which allows the trainer to demonstrate the effect of using slings at angles of 30, 45 and 60 degrees from the vertical, recording the increased loads on Straightpoint (SP) load cells. Also on board is a 15t capacity vertical

test bed, used to show the differences in deformation characteristics of fully-certified Crosby hooks and alternatives. Compression cells that can calculate the center of gravity of loads; two work-benches setup for Crosby IP vertical lifting clamp training; and a selection of other products that allow end users to gain hands-on experience with the product range, complete the offering carried by the trailer. Ashley Hall, area sales manager at Crosby

Europe, who uses the trailer to deliver training, said: “Crosby has always promoted training to ensure we rig safe and the trailer allows us to take toolbox training direct to

the shop floor. The truck doesn’t require or replace the need for classroom-based content; we still have our general and heavy lift rigging seminars, which are best presented in a more formal environment. The trailer is designed for quick toolbox-style visits.” The trailer, which is strategically located

in the UK’s Midlands, can be driven, setup and utilized by one person, and conveniently doubles up as an exhibition stand. Hall explained that three sides can be opened up to create a presentation platform, as Speedy Expo, LiftEx and Aquaculture UK attendees will see over the coming months. The vehicle is specifically designed for

the lifting and rigging marketplace but it can be adapted to support other sectors, such as fishing, which will be focal point of the aforementioned aquatic show and another visit already in the diary in Ireland next month (October). Hall added: “Introducing the trailer to

our distributors has been the main focus of the visits so far, but the ultimate goal is to deliver the concept to end users, as well as participating in industry road shows and open days. Initial feedback has been good and we’re hopeful that the rigcrosby.com site will essentially put its itinerary in the hands of the marketplace.” Book a Rig Safe Rig Smart European Trailer visit at rigcrosby.com. y
