never been involved with our beloved equine compan- ions to describe something about a horse. You might hear them say, “Horses are brown, they eat hay, the end.” And that’s exactly what equine artist and au- thor, Maureen Shelleau heard her “not- -much-

Maureen’s passion for
horses, animals, and the arts has been the inspirational and driving force behind her diverse portfolio of works. Her online portfolio showcases a variety of styles and medium, includ- ing oil, pastel, watercolour, graphite and sculpture. Maureen is a classically trained animator and edu- cator, and has worked on feature films and televi- sion series for studios such as Disney, Don Bluth,
that horses have fun doing! An easy read for kids of all ages, the story is a playfully written poem that has a catchy and memorable rhythm, akin to the lyrical lines of a Dr. Seuss book. This story is sure to enlighten and engage all levels of expertise, from the skilled and experienced horse profes- sional to wannabes and newcomers to the equine world. If you love horses, poetry and classic cartoons, you will fall in love with this entertaining and clever publication! “Horses are Brown,
They Eat Hay, The End!” is due out early this Summer, just in time for the 2019 Horse Show Season. The book will be available through a number of online stores, retail outlets and through the artist’s website at
Equinefrenzy.com . Mau- reen also exhibits her work at
several prestigious
equine trade fairs through- out the year, including the Michigan Horse Expo,
and Nelvana to name a few. She taught animation for many years at Sheridan College, the animated film arts’ most renowned school. Her lifelong ca- reer in the animation industry definitely had an in- fluence in orchestrating the pages of her new book, “Horses are Brown, They Eat Hay, The End!’ De- ciding whether to use her highly realistic or whim- sical style artwork for the pages of the book was an easy choice. The silliness of the notion that horses are just those strange creatures that stand around being brown and eating hay all day was just something that needed addressing in a fun but educational way! Every page is delightfully painted with Mau-
reen’s lush and imaginative equine characters, each happily adorning a different coat colour, munching on a va- riety of tasty foods and having fun doing things
Equine Affaire, The Royal Winter Fair and several local and regional shows throughout the U.S. and Canada where she will be selling and signing her new book. and developing and designing equine characters for her own upcoming animated series, Maureen
