Did You Miss it? University of Guelph’s Equine Career Night Sets Record Attendance

Over 300 people came out to dis-

cover the wide variety of potential ca- reers in the equine industry at the fourth annual Equine Career Night. The event was held on Thursday, March 7, 2019 in Peter Clark Hall at the University of Guelph from 7-9 p.m. It was hosted by the class of 2021 Bachelor of Bio-Re- source Management Equine Manage- ment students as part of

their

coursework. More than 50 equine busi- nesses from many different sectors in the industry participated as exhibitors, each showcasing their equine career path. The event also offered a unique networking opportunity for both equine enthusiasts and business owners alike. The categories of the businesses

were very diverse, ranging among feed companies, therapeutic riding centres, tourism, riding stables, equine physical therapy, retail, and more. Many ex- hibitors donated door prizes for raffle draws, including gift certificates for rid- ing lessons, clothing items, tote bags, saddle pads, stirrup irons, and vouchers for a free service from the donating busi- ness.

In total, over 40 prizes were given

away to attendees. The free event was open to all

equine enthusiasts from every sector of the industry. Attendees were of all ages, with the majority being students looking for ideas for their future. A first-year stu- dent, Caleigh Copelin, found success at the event, saying “I had been speaking with EMG about a summer position a few weeks before the event and they

suggested we discuss it further at career night. I then got to fill out a formal ap- plication form and complete the process of applying right there at the event”. As an additional point of interest

for the event, a used tack sale was also held in Peter Clark Hall that night. There were over 10 exhibitor tables, each full

of gently used items for sale. Many at- tendees walked away with great finds at great prices. The fourth annual Equine Career

Night was the most successful to date, with attendance increasing every year. The purpose of this event is to increase awareness of all of the opportunities the

equine industry has to offer and to give equine enthusiasts an engaging network- ing opportunity. For information of future career please
