What’sNew

Boyd Gaming Corporation has expanded to the Northeast region by purchasing the Valley Forge Casino Resort in King of Prussia. It’s the Vegas- based company’s first property in Pennsylvania, which is the second largest gaming state in the country, and is one of 25 casinos Boyd owns in eight states. Gamers can expect to enjoy an addi- tional 250 slot machines on the casino floor soon, and Boyd also will explore the possibility of offering both online and sports wagering. In addition, the Valley Forge Casino Resort Event Center boasts more than 100,000-square feet of meeting, expo and convention space, and more than 400 guest rooms and suites.

The Crowne Plaza King of Prussia recently com- pleted a full guest room renovation to the hotel.

New and exciting changes are on the way for Valley Forge National Historical Park. A $14 million renovation project is in the works for the Visitor Center that includes new HVAC systems, windows, finishes, energy efficiency improvements, improved collections storage, improved physical accessibility, and modern fire protection and security systems.

Superintendent Steven D. Sims said the vision is for a visitor to walk through the doors in 2020 and be “greeted by a refreshed and upgraded Visitor Center that truly immerses each visitor in the sto- ries and artifacts of the Valley Forge Winter Encampment.”

The George Washington Leadership Institute at Valley Forge, a partnered program between George Washington’s Mount Vernon and the Valley Forge Park Alliance, focuses on the lessons of Washington’s Army at the park to reflect on his management and strategy as it changed the course of the Revolutionary War.

Led by noted historians and military experts, the program includes interactive discussions, visuals, and reflection, and allows participants to walk the same grounds as Washington did during that harsh winter encampment of 1777. The program can be customized to fit each organization’s objectives, and can include transportation, catering and lodg- ing.
