Crafty on Get Dragon Notebook
Winter is coming so fire up your back-to-school or work stationery with this dragon-inspired notebook, perfect for adults or older children to make.
YOU WILL NEED: A5 hard backed book Glass pebble Tissue paper Modpodge
Black, yellow and orange paint Gold gilding wax or metallic paint Fine line and flat brush Egg shells
All materials available from Craft Corner & the Bears Den
METHOD:
• First paint the dragon’s eye onto the glass pebble. Using a liner brush and black paint, draw a fine line down the centre of the pebble’s flat base (bear in mind anything you paint will magnify). Leave to dry then paint the yellow iris first then orange, stopping just before the edge. Set aside to dry. • Cut pieces of tissue paper slightly larger than your book. Tightly screw into a ball then flatten. • Using a flat brush, cover front of book with modpodge.
• Lay a creased piece of tissue on top of the glue then, using only a small amount of modpodge,
brush from the centre outwards being careful not to tear your paper. This will create a textured background.
• Scrunch more pieces of tissue but this time don’t flatten out. Attach these to the area where you want your eye to be given height. Attach to your book using torn pieces of tissue and modpodge.
• Glue eye in place.
• Break egg shells and place pieces around the eye, attaching with modpodge. This will be the dragon’s scales.
• Tear long pieces of tissue about 2cm wide and twist to create tree branches; again use torn pieces of tissue around branch and onto book to keep in place.
• Make a cobweb with circles of twisted paper and long pieces to attach to tree. Use more twists to create spines and secure eye in place. Let dry.
• Repeat steps 2-4 on back of book. • Once your book is completely dry, paint all over with black acrylic paint. Let dry.
•Using your flat brush and either gold gilding wax or paint, dry brush raised areas.
Your Dragon Notebook is now complete. Happy Crafting!
