WEDDINGS fDreamlike hair or your big day With Chris Moody of Moody Hair

I recently returned from a dear friend’s wedding in Hamburg, Germany where the bride made a fairytale entrance across a lake in a small sail boat, dressed in the most exquisite smoky silver organza dress, patterned with delicate, embroidered flowers and silver leaf details.

Her hair was the essence of

simplistic, ethereal beauty: softly tousled, half up half down, and adorned with a gentle crown of meadow flowers and bay leaves. She seemed to really hit on the

up-and-coming 2019 trends of bridal fashion and bridal hair that we’re seeing emerging from the

catwalks right now. Brides no longer have to

be limited to white - or modest variations thereof. Floral patterns and soft pastel colours are coming into fabrics, with Carolina Herrera and Hermione de Paula bringing both delicate and bold flower patterns into their gowns and Vera Wang presenting an entire bridal collection in glorious colour. 2019 sees a much more relaxed

and fun loving bride and that’s reflected in hair, too. We’re seeing a move away from the stiff, solid pin- ups and complex buns and braids towards a much more fluid and ‘undone’ style. Soft, gentle beach waves and

understated volume are strong themes; a big trend will be the half up half down, with hair gently swept away from the face and cheeks and allowed to fall softly across the shoulders.

If your hair is long, past

shoulders, consider a soft roller set for delicate volume, or a wide, gentle barrel tong to add soft movement. Create a little width at the temple area and then gather the hair back into a loose, low ponytail, adding the tiniest amount of back- brushing to fill the pony tail out then loosely tie a wide silk or satin ribbon in a casual bow at the nape of the neck. For medium length hair, at or

just below the shoulders, add soft movement with a styling wand then go half up half down. Create a low seductive fringe that tucks behind the ears and gently fasten the longer sides at the crown, creating a base for any veils. Add a texture spray to bring the hair behind the ears around your neck and clavicle. For shorter hair we can still stay

with the softer, undone, fairytale theme. Statement earrings that

dangle can add volume and interest, while careful placement of flowers and small colourful feathers can add playfulness and fun to hair. It’s always a good idea to book

well in advance for these services as many salons get very busy in wedding season. Call the salon as soon as you have a date in mind and book a consultation with your stylist to plan one or two pre-day trails to test out some ideas and get a feel for the final look. Get a quote on the costs

involved; it’s worth bearing in mind here that many salons will base their costs on the time involved, rather than the actual service itself, so be sure to discuss this to avoid any surprises later on. So the message this wedding

season for hair is playful, relaxed and fun…and it sounds like the perfect theme for the whole day to me.
