Welcome Dear Residents:
The Fox River defines the Batavia community and is a key source of pride for our area. On June 25th, elected officials from the City and Park District, administrators and key staff members held a special board meeting on the Riverwalk to discuss the creation of a master plan which addresses the Fox River. The plan will include the preservation of the Depot Pond, new ways to create public access to the river, efforts to combat shoreline erosion, and additional recreational programming.
The City and Park District are working in tandem on all of these objectives. Both entities agree it is in the best interest of the community for local governments to research, discuss, and plan as collaborators rather than as independent turf-oriented, single-focused entities. The City and Park District have a great partnership, focused on the best interests of Batavia residents. With that in mind, the consensus of the group was to create an ad hoc committee to serve in an advisory capacity to review a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for hiring a consultant for master planning.
As a river community, we are excited to partner with the City and Residents to plan for the future. We look forward to sharing more information about the evolution of the heart of Batavia.
As long as you find the river, you can always find your way home. All the best,
Allison Niemela, CPRP Executive Director
