Around Kingswear BY MIKE TREVORROW Kingswear
Neighbourhood Plan During February 2017, householders of the Parish of Kingswear complet- ed a questionnaire to express views on how they felt their Parish should develop in the future. (The results can be seen online at http://www. kingswearneighbourhoodplan.
co.uk). With a significant number of households responding to the questionnaire, and these responses having been collated by Devon Communities Together, the findings are helping to formulate the King- swear Neighbourhood Plan and the future development of the Parish for many years to come. A small group of residents have
met regularly over the past 12 months to consider the results and write these into a proposal that will finally be brought before the Kingswear Parish Council, then following a public referendum, legally adopted to sit alongside Planning legislation. The work of the steering committee is now being reviewed by a professional planning consultant, and with this valuable help a document of policies will be produced for further public consultation and comment. With a vision to support a thriving and sustainable community while protecting the special charm and character of the Parish, exhibitions are to be held in the Village Hall and at Hillhead to illustrate the various objectives proposed, enabling members of the public to view and comment on the progress so far. Please look out for notices of the two exhibition dates. (Submitted on behalf of the King- swear Neighbourhood Plan steering committee.)
Kingswear Quilters Jane Brenchley of Kingston,
Kingswear asked me to let you know about the creative group she belongs to; the photograph is of some placemats made by Heidi, one of the group members. ‘We are a local patchwork group
that meets twice a month, on the 2nd
and 4th Thursday afternoons
each month, in the Kingswear area. We like making quilts and house- hold items for family, friends and charities - novices welcome.’ If you enjoy patchwork/quilting
and would like more information please telephone Jane Brenchley on 01803 752455 or email: billjane.

Arts Society A regular and quite substantial
group of Kingsweardoes takes to the sea across the Straights of Dart each month on the second Monday
afternoon at 2:15pm for 2:30 in the main hall of The Flavel to enjoy a really excellent series of illustrated talks by experts in the varying fields of the arts. The Arts Society (used to be NADFAS) meets with speakers of very high calibre to be enlightened and enthralled in areas of painting, sculpture, precious metals, lives of artists and their work, periods of especially interesting history in the arts, behind the scenes in the arts world and so on and on. The series of talks starts in to be precise, and
October, 8th
carries on throughout the year until June. If you have any interest in the arts at all this group is a must. The standard is so high and the group very friendly. Just come along to join in and enjoy a little piece of real civilisation, on a Monday too!
Rowing Club Jolly Taking full advantage of the
gorgeous weather, a bunch of Rowing Club members had a recent trip up-river to the River Shack at Stoke Gabriel to enjoy their splendid steak on stones. A jolly group of about 14 drank most of the cafe’s beer and reduced the beef mountain considerably, so a good time, as they say, was had by all. The fit types rowed all the way there and back in double-quick
