Heart of the community As well as being situated in the

heart of Dartmouth, The RCH is very proud of being part of the community, employing over 70 staff, the majority of which live within a 10 mile radius. Although many have been born and bred in Devon, the hotel has a wide and varied staff base with employees coming from all over the world including India, Poland, France and Spain. The hotel prides itself on having

a very loyal staff base with some members of the team having been with the company for decades, including Rodger who has been with the business for over 35 years, Mary (fondly known as Nigel’s nightmare) for over 20 years and Ankur our head chef from India, who has been with the hotel for five years. Some members of staff even work with their family. Eg. Carlos, our Spanish barista (who makes the best coffee in town!) is now training his nephew to become the next generation of Spanish baristas. The RCH is also committed to

responsible food sourcing and reducing travel miles by using as many local suppliers as possible; lamb comes from Phil Bond in Blackawton, soft drinks from Luscombe at Buckfastleigh and gin via Salcombe Gin and Distinctly Dartmouth Gin. This year’s focus is a reduction in single use plastic using paper straws, bags for life, re-useable plastic pint event glasses and the refill app scheme offering free water refills to all. The hotel are proud supporters of

many local events such as the Dart Music Festival, The Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta and the Dartmouth Food Festival to name but a few.

35 year anniversary 2018 has been a special year for

the Ways and the RCH, and in April this year, the Way family celebrat- ed 35 years since they purchased the hotel. To celebrate their ‘Jade’ anniversary, the hotel held a day long celebration which included, a sell out 1980’s style three course buffet followed by celebratory cake with teas and coffees and a 1980’s themed event which was free for customers past and present to enjoy. years! They say time flies when you are having fun. We’ve made some great friends over the years from visitors and locals, to staff and other local businesses who have supported us along the way. We’re proud to still have staff who have been with us from the very beginning and it was great to see guests both past and present at our 1980’s celebration!”
