FOCUS ON: DIRECTOR DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME


The Chamber’s flagship business training offering, the six-day Director Development Programme, begins on 28 June in Nottingham with limited places remaining. The all-encompassing programme


offers six core modules; all of which are designed to give knowledge, tools and understanding which can be taken directly back into a working environment to ensure tangible results and, ultimately, return on investment.


The six modules are:


1. DEVELOPING VISION • Identifying the future business objectives and culture


• Identification of the ‘big picture' objectives


• Agreeing the values that the organisation will be expected to act upon and uphold


• Identification of the drivers for change


• Creating a powerful team to lead the change


2. PLANNING AND DIRECTION • Designing the structures and processes that will enable the objectives to be achieved


• Determine the level of capabilities/skills required to support and build upon the culture


• Identify and reinforce the behaviour required at all levels of the organisation


3. FINANCE FOR NON- FINANCIAL DIRECTORS • For directors who need to have a level of finance understanding


• Importance of finance in business • Profit and loss account, balance sheet and how they are related


• Understanding cash flows and budgets


• How to produce key indicators • Overview of corporation tax • Other useful financial and non- financial information


4. PEOPLE MANAGEMENT APPROACHES • How to identify the current management styles structures and processes that have created the present culture


• The role of coaching in business capability and skill development


• Recruiting and keeping people that will align with the culture


• Keeping people motivated to maintain and build on results


• How to keep building your team morale and performance


• Recognition of the benefits of diversity in the workplace


• Understanding values differences Charles puts his skills to the test


Charles Barnascone, who delivers the Chamber’s Director Development Programme and sales courses, will shortly be putting his own leadership and management skills to the test as he embarks on a significant personal and collective challenge. A few years ago, Charles decided to take on a


massive challenge and this month he stars the North America leg of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. This is no small undertaking, not least because it


involves sailing 7,115 miles around the coast of North and Central America, it also means that he’ll be away from the business from 24 April to 27 June this year. Charles will be sharing a race yacht with 19 other like-minded individuals and will be racing 24 hours a

day for around three weeks at a time. The yacht he will be racing on is the Sanya Serenity

5. PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT AND REVIEW • Measuring the outputs and results to make the business self- sustaining


• Measuring the level of capabilities/skills exhibited to support and build upon the culture


• Giving feedback to key stakeholders on performance and improvement


• How to use trust as a measure of the level of empowerment


• Creating a plan - achieving short, medium, and long term goals


6. MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS AND THE MARKETING MIX • Identification of marketing objectives


• The main principles of the marketing mix and how to use them


• Interaction of different elements of the marketing mix and their combined effect on the business


• Gathering information to measure the effect of the marketing mix
