and the fourth-largest in the world. The Indonesian government
allocated £23.4bn (20% of the state budget) for education in 2017 and decentralised to local government in over 34 provinces nationwide. There are plans to increase its skilled workers, which opens up opportunities for UK education providers to establish a presence with a focus on the teaching of English, professional development and vocational training. In terms of infrastructure, in particular the rail sector, opportunities exist for planning and development, project management, operations, architecture and engineering. The government has set a target of adding over 3,000km to the existing railway network, with £5.7bn allocated for urban transport, aimed at constructing railways in six metropolitan cities and 17 large cities across Indonesia. If you are interested in doing
business in Indonesia, Enterprise Europe Network and EU-Indonesia Business Network (EIBN) would like to invite East Midlands-based SMEs to learn more about the business opportunities Indonesia offers, offering tangible advice on how to successfully enter the market and the funding available to do it. This free-to-attend event also
gives the opportunity for attendees to raise questions about the presentations and have business consultation with the EIBN, EU Desk and Indonesian government representatives.

Continuing partnership secures ITOPS course
The Chamber is to continue its successful partnership with Steve Townsley, of Fidelitas Training, who designed and delivers - in conjunction with the Chamber - the International Trade Operations and Procedures (ITOPS) – the Chamber’s flagship international training offering. ITOPS is a four-day course, which takes place over
a number of weeks. Resulting in a recognised qualification for successful delegates, it covers the main elements of export administration, including documentation, Customs and Excise and other legal requirements, payments and dispatch and shipping. It is accredited by the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) with all delegates that achieve a merit or distinction receiving the BCC Foundation Award in International Trade.
‘ITOPS regularly receives positive feedback due to the value it offers both the individual delegates and the businesses they represent’
The continuing of the partnership between the
Chamber, Fidelitas and international freight management provider 512 (Sheffield) – which kindly sponsors the programme – ensures that Chamber members can continue to take advantage of the training programme, which has, in the past, saved participating businesses thousands of pounds. ITOPS regularly receives positive feedback due to
the value it offers both the individual delegates and the businesses they represent; going on to utilise and benefit from the knowledge and understanding they have acquired.
Suresh Seetharaman, of Global Aspire, said: “One
of the best training programmes I have ever attended. Given the short period, it has covered most of the important topics any international business needs to know.” Recent ITOPS graduate Kris Jedynak, of
Bradburys, a leading cheese maker in the UK and Europe, added: “Steve had incredible knowledge and skill surrounding the complex administration procedures and paperwork. His ability to turn the most complex situation into a digestible, easy to follow process is proving to be invaluable. The benefits of the learnings will continue for many years to come.” The latest cohorts of ITOPS graduates have also
enjoyed success on the programme, with all 13 being awarded the BCC Foundation Award in International Trade, including four merits and nine distinctions. The highest grades were achieved by Claudia Collins, of Kostal UK, and Martyna Kozak (pictured), of Copley Scientific, who received scores of 100% and 98.5% respectively. Laura Howard, the Chamber’s Head of
International Trade, said: “The Chamber is absolutely delighted to be continuing what is a hugely successful partnership with Steve and Fidelitas Training as well as 512, which we are indebted to as sponsors. The qualification offers practical and up- to-date knowledge for leading international trade professionals and the Chamber is proud to support the programme.”
The next ITOPS programme begins on 5 June. For details, please visit
