CHAMBER NEWS

School of Business shaping initiatives to boost local enterprise

Professor Zoe Radnor (pictured), Dean of the University of Leicester School of Business (ULSB), explains the reasons behind the QES collaboration with the Chamber and how the ULSB is adding value to this critical area of business activity.

The University of Leicester School of Business has partnered with the East Midlands Chamber (Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire) on its Quarterly Economic Survey. Responses from the survey contribute to the

development of the Chamber’s Manifesto for Business for the year and shape campaigns and lobbying activity undertaken by the Chamber for the rest of the year and beyond. The findings are also used to produce local reports and presentations, shared with the business community, local media and decision makers.

‘Our work with the Chamber aims to create a clearer picture of the local economy’

“The Chamber continues to grow

its influence as an authoritative source of up-to-date data and insight on the local economy.” The University of Leicester

School of Business is a vibrant, international and interdisciplinary community of over 150 academics. With over 90 years of experience

delivering business education, it is internationally renowned for its courses in accounting and finance, management, marketing and economics, with a global alumni network of over 30,000. It is ranked 14th in the UK for

research power, reflecting the pioneering work conducted in partnership with leaders, managers and organisations to promote and strengthen responsible business practice.

‘ULSB’s research challenges accepted thinking, norms and perceptions in management, economics, finance, accounting and marketing’

ULSB helps analyse the results, utilising the

expertise of over 200 academics to ensure that the direction taken by the Chamber is properly weighted to reflect local needs. The survey helps to create a clearer picture of the local economy and highlights key improvements and areas to work on. It presents the opportunity for the regional business

community to come together and create an authoritative business voice that informs the direction of the local economy. By working with the Chamber, we are working to grow the influence of the survey and enhance its impact for our local organisations and guide future generations of entrepreneurs. ULSB’s research challenges accepted thinking, norms and perceptions in management, economics, finance, accounting and marketing. Our goal in partnering with the Chamber on its Quarterly Economic Survey is to enhance the way we all think about business and to work in partnership

with leaders and managers to promote and strengthen sustainable business in all of its forms. A key aspect of our school’s mission is to use our

research, teaching and enterprise activities to make a difference through engaged, creative and socially responsible approaches to business, management and economics. We aim to collaborate, challenge assumptions and innovate for a brighter, more inclusive and sustainable future. We successfully partner with a wide range of

organisations and this is underpinned by theories developed through research which ensures latest application in the work place. Last year, we became a member of Business in the Community (BITC), an organisation championing the Prince’s Responsible Business Network. Being a member supports us to deliver social, environmental and economic sustainability internally and to partner with other businesses to bring together a collective strength and force for good. The school also holds the prestigious Small

Business Charter award, a mark of excellence for business schools, which recognises expertise in supporting small business, student enterprise and engagement in the local economy. ULSB forms an integral part of the University of

Leicester which has a wide-changing provision for organisations to work with us; the launch of dedicated support for SMEs through the Leicester Innovation Hub; establishing a National Space Park to drive innovation in space and Earth observation; deliver our commitments at the MIRA Technology Institute by providing specialist courses to meet the evolving needs of the automotive industry, and advance our contribution in the UK’s first ever Life Science Opportunity Zone at the ‘Living Lab’ in Charnwood Campus.
