Also hear from keynote speakers from Ørsted, Siemens, Renewable UK and Innovate UK. Participants will have the opportunity to hold pre-arranged one-to-

one meetings to explore potential technological, commercial and R&D cooperation opportunities. There will also be an opportunity to speak with potential investors and buyers during this session.

SPOTLIGHT ON: INDONESIA

Indonesia has the largest economy in South East Asia, with nearly half of the region’s gross domestic product (GDP), with 5.3% GDP growth expected this year. The economy has grown at a

steady rate of 5.4% for the past ten years, which is a more stable rate than any of the Brazil, Russia, India and China (BRIC) countries. It is also strategically placed to do business with China, Japan and Australia. Domestic consumption makes up 55% of Indonesia’s GDP, which has helped to largely protect it from the global economic crisis. Indonesia’s economic growth is

driven by an emerging middle class. International surveys show that Indonesians are young, technically savvy, trusting consumers, highly receptive to advertising and keen to try new things. This means that there is increasing demand for commodities such as modern retail and consumer goods, healthcare and education products, transport and infrastructure and ICT. With 250 million people it’s the

world’s fourth most populous country and the largest in South East Asia. It offers opportunities for UK companies across all sectors. Doing business in Indonesia

takes patience and perseverance. Companies should be prepared to invest time and resources in regular visits over a long period of time before seeing any returns. Indonesia offers a lot of opportunities for British companies in a wide range of sectors, although companies looking for a ‘quick win’ would be advised to look elsewhere. The rewards of doing business in Indonesia can be considerable. However, it can take time to develop the necessary

Digital transformation matchmaking event – International Business Festival Date: 27 June 2018 - Liverpool

Many opportunities exist in the architecture and engineering sectors

Indonesia is strategically positioned to do business with Australia, China and Japan

relationships before any financial returns materialise, and companies should recognise this and plan their business entry strategy accordingly. That said, lucrative opportunities

still exist for UK companies in Indonesia. Indonesia plans to build 15 new airports by 2019, nine new air cargo facilities, redevelop 100 existing airports and upgrade a further 26. A fourth terminal at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is also planned and expected to be operational by 2021. For this to be a success, there will be a requirement for navigation and communications equipment, for example. With over 60 million students and

almost four million teachers in 340,000 educational institutions, Indonesia is the third-largest education system in the Asian region
