MEMBER NEWS Queen’s Award for innovative firm
Derby-based HSG, a market leader in washroom water conservation and services, has been recognised for enterprise excellence in the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise in Innovation. The Queen’s Awards for
Enterprise celebrates the UK’s small and medium sized businesses. Now in its 52nd year, they are one of the most prestigious business awards in the country, with winning businesses able to use the esteemed Queen’s Awards emblem for the next five years. HSG applied for the awards in
recognition of the impact that its innovative and unique Ureco system is having on businesses and venues across the UK. The Ureco urinal sleeve and
Uretech water management system is already installed and achieving significant water and money savings in some of the UK’s top venues including the 02 Arena in London, NEC in Birmingham, major restaurant chains, top football clubs and some of the largest retail shopping centres across the country. HSG’s system is the market
leader in this field by using patented technology to improve the washroom environment. The Ureco stops smells by
trapping urinal odours below the surface and reduces blockages through the patented enzyme system, with the Uretech reducing urinal flushes from around 96 times to just four times a day - saving money by reducing water consumption by up to 96%. HSG has continued its innovation,
backed by extensive research and development, with the recent launch of the Uretech Plus professional water management solution. Fitted onto a venue’s existing
water meter, Uretech Plus uses the latest Wi-Fi technology to provide minute-by-minute readings of water usage to a laptop, tablet or smartphone.

‘Although we are a relatively small company, we certainly punch above our weight in the industry’
HSG’s new Cleen App and Dashboard is the UK’s first fully- integrated washroom services system. The Cleen App is free to
download and enables customers and visitors to rate the washrooms in any type of venue from restaurants and shopping centres to sports stadia and airports. With the Cleen App, users can
either compliment accessible and clean washrooms or post complaints and issues they have
faced such as dirty basins, no soap or toilet paper, access problems for people with disabilities and lack of baby changing facilities. These can then be viewed by
other Cleen App users so that they can see which venues have good – and poor – washroom facilities and make a choice to visit accordingly. In addition to the app, the Cleen
Dashboard enables businesses and washroom services providers to have full and immediate access to reviews - highlighting the issues so that they
can take action and directly respond to customer feedback. HSG Managing Director Simon
Rice said: “The Queen’s Award for Enterprise will give us the platform to forge on with our future research and development in more new products. “Although we are a relatively
small company, we certainly punch above our weight in the industry and have some of the most prestigious venues in the country on our client portfolio. “It is therefore a huge honour to
be able to display the emblem on all our packaging and marketing materials and to fly the flag outside our offices on Pride Park.”
